My DD is just over 7mo. and I started introducing some solids at 6mo. Starting with carrots and sweet potato. I have also introduced avocadoes and yellow squash. About a couple weeks ago or so I noticed her stool is a lot runnier and she is straining really hard. Sometimes it has some small junks in it. It really hasn't been the same since I started solids. Is this normal? Also a couple of nights she's woken up to poo and she cries and I can tell it's hurting her. Otherwise, she is happy, gaining weight and peeing normally. I haven't seen any blood or anything either.

Yes, it's normal for the stool to change in consistency, color and odor after solids are introduced. The straining and pain would suggest constipation, but if the stool is runny and not hard when it does come out, then it's not constipation, and the discomfort is more likely due to gas. When she seems uncomfortable like that, you can try a warm bath or gentle belly massage in a circular motion.

Ok I do rub her back and that seems to helps sometimes. It's hard to give her a bath at 2:30 in the morning :D...but I'll try the tummy rubbing. Thanks at least I know its normal.
