I am going through my closets right now throwing out everything that doesn't fit (a horribly daunting task.... I used to have a friend who worked at value village and she got a smashing discount so we would spend $50 and walk out with three garbage bags full each) and I literally have piles..of clothes..that I don't fit\want anymore, and are causing huge amounts of clutter\mess\chaos. So I am going to donate them all to the sally ann or something similar.

Here is my little dilemma. I have some amazing skirts that I absolutely love. They arent very expencive, but I got them in the states a few months ago, and it would be hard for me to replace them. They are size 22. I am now a size 16, and still loosing weight. I don't want to donate them. But I have no idea how to take in clothing, and if it would even be worth it to do on "cheap" skirts (from Torrid). I am wondering if I should just let go and give them away (and I know there will be some girl absolutely dying over the sweet score at the salvation army) or if I should attempt to take them in or get someone else to take them in. Would a seamstress even take in something that cheap?

I am such a packrat and it is difficult for me to get rid of stuff, especially some killer skirts that I wore only a few times. I have been wearing them with saftey pins and pulling them up constantly as they fall down. It's rediculous, I need to do SOMETHING with them.

I don't think a tailor or seamstress would refuse a garment because its "cheap". I've had various things tailored and some were very inexpensive items. If you're willing to pay, they should be willing to modify it for you! I say go for it :)

Thats what my husband said AuLait. That I am paying money so they should do it no matter what. I just wasn't sure if you could even take in factory made clothes. My only experince with tailoring is my dad getting his really expencive suits taken in and out. I used to go with my dad on errands and the tailors shop would be filled with clothes over $1000 per item. I kind of assumed that if I brought my $30 skirts to a place like that they might be insulted.

I would just read up on the internet and take them in myself, well I already sew, but thats my advice for you, I feel ripped off if I have to pay someone to do what I can for free.

you can probebly do a good job too I might add.

Oh absolutely get them taken in! It'll be nice to wear them when they fit you right. And it will cost a lot less to alter a few things than to buy a few new skirts.

Try your local fabric shop, if you have one, And ask if they know anyone who alters clothing. Maybe even Check on Etsy in the Alchemy section , you can submit any kind of request there.

I doubt someone would be insulted, but rather happy to have your business.

Yes, take them in & have them altered to fit. I sew, so I'd take them in myself or turn them into clothes (dresses) for my little girls. :)

On second thought, I probably wouldn't take them in, not the way they should be done anyway. I think that sort of sewing is far more tedious than starting from scratch. My girls would have cute new dresses. ;)

I'd get them altered. I don't think a $30 skirt is so 'cheap' that it can't be altered. I've had a $15 skirt altered!
