Someone told a friend to use babywise book or something. I faintly remember you all talking about it here. What are your thoughts on it?

Not good at all, babies starve on that plan, the ACP has release a statement against it. He's a jerk who knows nothing about children, making money off advising near abuse.

I am not a baby wise fan either.

I think it causes great resentment towards children.

I have the book. After I read it I wished that I had researched it more. It really is terrible. It worked for a friend of mine but she is fine with the CIO method and I am not. I thought it was horrible and comparable to military scheduling.

Ack, ack, and double ack is my assessment. And I'm being kind.

But, there are good and bad things (or things you'll use and things you won't use) in all parenting books. And usually, I can read them and accept what I want and dump what I don't.

Babywise....I'm not seeing anything good there, and the bad can be detrimental and deadly.

This is the best anti-ezzo site I've seen: http://www.ezzo.info/.

The worst "parenting" book ever written! Stay far, far away.

I bought it myself and got through the first 2 chapters. I now keep it as a refrence on what NOT TO EVER DO to a child! If it says do it, you know not to!

In my county, following the advice before the age of 1 year is considered child neglect. Ezzo himself does not recommend the book for children under 6 months, and the AAP has made a statement that it should not be used for children under one year.

However, some pediatricians around here continue to recommend it for newborns. ARGGH!

Try as I might, I cannot find what the method it. I really don't care anyway as I trust you ladies know what you are talking about. I remember reading about it on here some time ago so when I saw others promoting it I was stunned. Everyone is different though.

It should be a testimony to you that NONE of the Ezzo's 6 children are in communication with them, of their own choosing, and he has been ex-communicated by his church.

I stay away from the likes of Ezzo. I much prefer Dr Sears.

Vegas, where did you get that information? If I can verify it, I'd like to use it in my teaching to parents who plan to use the system.

I heard an interview on the radio with one of his children when I was living in Oregon. It was one of the AM stations ( I love AM talk radio). Lemme see if I can find links of any kind. This was YEARS ago mind you.

The Ezzo sought refuge at a church pastored by a friend who was involved in their organization, but within a few years even this church had excommunicated them. Their accounting firm dropped them. Their adult children cut off contact with them. The publisher of Ezzo's secular books, Multnomah, returned publishing rights to him following an investigation of alleged medical misinformation and character problems.

Leaving their estranged children and grandchildren in California, the Ezzos moved across country to South Carolina. Their secular and church-based lines of books are now self-published.

Sadly, several years ago, both daughters and their husbands cut off contact with the Ezzos, and they remain estranged. Both couples have confirmed this to Ezzo.info. One couple, the Luedkes, indicated that their decision was based on their personal observation of the same types of character issues raised by others and that it was done only after much prayer, consideration, and counsel.

This situation is a true tragedy, but churches and parents considering the Ezzos’ parenting advice deserve to know that the pattern of broken relationships they have left behind them extends even into their own family.

There ya go.

I didn't know their daughters cut off contact. Ouch.

Anyway, in response to the OP, when the AAP comes out against a book and warns pediatricians that when they see a baby with failure to thrive they need to ask whether this book is being used, you have to see that there is something dangerous about the book.
