I just noticed that all of the Gerber foods in plastic are #7s. This is one of the bad ones right? Wonder why they havent changed or tried to change?

Dole fruit in bottles, mandarins and peaches Etc. Are all in #7 too. I called them and they said that all number 7 means is a blend so if you avoid all number 7 plastic you will be avoiding a lot of plastic. I told them all the consumer alerts say to avoid this type of plastic and she said she could send me a letter saying it's safe to use Dole's #7 plastic. I said no thanks, a letter doesn't make me feel a lot better about it, and we should be eating fresh fruit anyway.

Does anyone have that link about the numbers and safety?
My dd's favorite sippy cup is a #7.

the #7 that is bad is the clear hard polycarbonate bottles intended for multiple use. MOST #7 is NOT hard polycarbonate, and therefore is as safe as the "other" plastics, whatever that means.

DH works in a plant that cuts and coats the steel used for canned foods. If you look inside a food can you can see that the can is coated with a plastic-like coating to keep it from rusting. Different food products have different acidities and therefore are coated with different products.
They are going through a whole testing thing now to see which of their coatings are BPA free. Food manufacturers want to be able to say their cans are BPA free, but the truth is nobody really knows right now.
So, if you are really concerned about having NO BPA then you should avoid all canned products for now.

The bottles of PediaSure have one of those numbers that were recalled.
