From what I have gathered Nestle was showing pictues of fat American babies in third world countries and telling these women that their babies would be like that to if they used their formula. Well since they lack clean water, and the money to afford formula so they thinned it too much. So they lost their own good milk supply and were stuck with the formula.

That's a good question. ALL the formula companies have been implicated in unethical practices, not just Nestle. My guess is that because Nestle may be the only company that offers so many other food and household goods (since the formula itself is NOT part of the boycott, only their other products).

Many years ago, my friend's mom entered her in a Carnation Baby Formula contest in the Philippines and won. They wanted a roly poly baby, and she was. She was also exclusively breastfed. Talk about false advertising.

Yes, Nestle is a huge food manufacturer. From chocolate to formula. Check out this info and a history on Nestle's poor practices that go back 20 years and are still relevant in 2008.

This runs deep. How far should a boycot go? While at Disney World last year I saw many baby rest/ breastfeeding stops. I was so impressed that Disney had comfortable, private and air conditioned places mom's could stop and breast feed (or bottle feed). I journeyed into to see for myself only to find no promotion of breastfeeding it's self but PLENTY of Nestle formula for sale, like a tampon dispenser in a ladies room, mom's could buy NESTLE formula. Some may say this is nice, but if you read the deeper message, it's only a tactic to look nice but promote their product which is not the best nor the safest for our next generation. However, its a business and their business is $ not health. (Ironically, Nestle promotes/sponsers some exhibits like in Epcot). How nice of them....

This left a sour taste in my mouth (as if I actually tasted the formula). Do I now boycot Disney (truly the happiest place on earth in my opinion)? No, but I will take that experience to others.

If we boycot Nestle then the company will feel it in their pockets where it really counts for them. Maybe some CEO will take note, and continue to provide the chocolate but ditch the formula. In fact, we can only hope the next CEO is a breastfeeding mother!
More food for thought, if their formula was found with unsafe levels of ingredients, what does that mean for the Crunch Bar?

all 9 of my children and I have boycotted Nestle for the last 5 years when I took a sociology class. The are disturbing in their practices and the more people know about their actual thought of children (has to be an actual thought if the continue to practice this advertising) that money is more important than 450,000 deaths

I applaud you for the boycott and for involving and hence educating your children on the matter of a higher calling!

Vicki- My mom works at Disney and that crap gets under my skin big time. However, I have to admit I've seen more moms nursing in Disney on any one two week trip than eer in my life outside of LLL! Especially toddlers. :)

That said- if we rent a stroller I cross out the Nestle art. I'm just a bitch like that. And I always mention the issue to the cast member working at the baby center. I've never had anyone act like I was a loon and they usually ask lots of questions. At least it's a conversation starter and every little bit helps.

I wish I had a family member who worked at Disney. It is my favorite place. Yes, I saw a lot of nursing mother's too. I wish LLL could have an equal # of nursing stations as Nestle has baby centers.
