Sorry this will be long, but I am having problems. Between my baby's 2nd and 3rd weeks he only gained 2oz and I started supplementing, pumping 2-5x/day (with double electric pump and getting 0-1.5oz each time) and increased nursing frequency. The next week he gained 4oz and 7oz the next, but I was supplementing with about 6oz a day. I tried fenugreek, but only for 3-4 days because I woke up engorged. I got down to supplementing 1-3oz/day that week, pumped 1-2x/day (1.5-2.5oz each). Also, he stopped nursing well and I had to literally squeeze milk into his mouth to get him to suck, I guess due to the multiple bottles he was getting since I always at least tried to nurse before offering the bottle. Now (week 7) I am back to supplementing 5-8oz a day (1-1.5oz each). I can't go back to pumping 4-5x/day because I feel I'm missing out on quality baby time.
-Should I try the fenugreek again but take it for a longer time and taper off?
-What is the best way to supplement and still maintain milk supply?
-How did I lose my supply so quickly and how can I keep it up?
My original goal was to breastfeed for 6 months and will be going back to work in 3 weeks. Thanks.
