ok, my little guy is going to be 1 in two weeks! i can't believe it.
my concern (or should i say, dad's concern) is that he is not getting enough breastmilk. i pump at least 3x/day when i am at work (about 10 hrs). I supply 14 oz of breastmilk for these days (i can usually pump 12-14 oz, i have a small store of bm in freezer if needed) and i nurse him before i leave for work, and shortly after i get home. and he also nurses at least one more time that eve before bed. (So total = 14 oz plus at least 3 nursing sessions in a 24 hr period)
now, dad and i aren't together, so when he is with his dad overnite, i supply approx 30 oz/24 hr period. is this not enough??
i should add that he is perfectly content after nursing, as well as at daycare with the amount of milk i provide. dad says that i am not providing/producing enough! (sorry, i am a little aggravated)
i am not about to starve our child!
i just don't know how he is perfectly fine at daycare and with me, and then is apparently "starving" at dad's.
anyways, the dr. said that he should be having 6-8oz/serving. while i don't agree (b/c i feel i know my body, and what it produces, and how my son eats) - dad thinks this is "God's word" so has taken it upon himself to give him 8 oz/serving. Fine, he's going to do what he's going to do.
i feel though that the whole 6-8 oz serving suggestion is slightly based on "bottle" feeding more with formula. maybe i'm wrong?? the dr. did not tell me where she got this information. although i know it is typical for an older infant to consume more at one serving, and usually go longer b/w servings. but i just feel this is based on formula feedings.
Also - the dr. is not concerned with his weight. his growth chart is normal and he was almost 20# when weighed at the dr. at 11 mo.
He is also eating 3 "meals" a day and a couple snacks here and there. He uses a sippy (with water, or diluted juice) w/ meals and snacks. And the above mentioned breastmilk (nursing or bottle).
So I guess - am I producing enough? I have a Medela electric pump and basically pump every 3 hrs when I have to be away from my son.
And is 30 oz of breastmilk enough for 24 hrs? Kellymom says 19-24 oz is "average" for 9-11 mo. if I remember correctly.
I just don't need this added stress! Please help me if you can!
Thanks so much!
