Ok, dd is constipated. She is having a really hard time pooping and the poops are solid and look more like big people poop. DD had Bananas and squash a few times and I think that's what did it. I started following the quote below last night. She had 2 ounces of diluted apple juice last night. 2 more ounces this morning and ate peaches for lunch. Everything I read just says to feed her stool softening foods twice a day but it doesn't say how long it is supposed to take.
She's been nursing regularly and has plenty of wet diapers. Should I just stop giving her solids completely until her poops get better or will the suggestions in this quote help?

Pears, peaches, plums, apricots, peas and prunes make stools softer. By balancing the diet, you can often keep the stools comfortably mid-range. If the stools are still too firm, juice is the gentlest medicine to soften them up. Apple juice twice a day is a good bet. If this doesn't work, prune juice is even better. Also, when your son is straining you might want to put him in a tub of warm water. This will relax his muscles and make the stool easier to pass.

I found purreed prunes to be very effective when dd had the same problem. Just lay off anything that contains iron for a feeding or two...or as I did often, mix some prune baby food with the cereal (I mixed about 50/50).
Hope this helps!

I agree about the iron. Are you giving her new vitamins with iron? Other than that and what you're doing I'd just wait and let nature take its course. I'd call the pediatrician if she doesn't poop on the third day.

No vitamins. She's on her 2nd day today.

Me, I'd definitely cut out the bananas. Then I'd quit worrying about it.
And cut the juice. If it doesn't help after a couple of days, it's not worth bothering with. And it's nutritionally valueless.

I'd cut out bananas. wait a couple days and if it doesn't improve, cut out the other solids as well. then wait a month and try again with one food at a time to determine which ones constipate. no juice.
if you have diarhea the brat diet includes bananas, rice, applesauce and toast because those items are binding. an extended brat diet includes pears, peaches, etc. for some those items are not just binding, but are constipating.
I wouldn't fix one diet problem by adding yet another new food. I would back off to see where the issue lies and then avoid that food til she's older and more able to process it.

A BRAT diet is for people who need a basic diet that is easy on their stomachs. My dd1 was on a brat diet when she was on chemo at the age of 13 months. I would think that dd1's oncologist would recommend an easy going diet for her stomach as not to bind her up since chemo did.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BRAT_diet
"The BRAT diet is a historically prescribed treatment for patients with various forms of gastrointestinal distress such as diarrhea, dyspepsia, and/or gastroenteritis. The BRAT diet consists of foods that are relatively bland, easy to digest, and low in fiber. "
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002118.htm
"Bananas are part of the BRAT diet, a diet many physicians and nurses recommend for children recovering from gastrointestinal problems, particularly diarrhea. BRAT stands for the different components that make up the diet:
Bananas
Rice cereal
Applesauce
Toast
These are binding foods that make the stools harder."
