Hi all - I'm very new to this, our son is 11 days old -- I am breastfeeding and my concern is I cannot get him to eat for more then 10 minutes on one breast then he falls asleep, and 1 1/2 hours later is he is ready to go again -- we try to wake him when he falls asleep - tickle him, change diaper etc, but he's done!! Occasionally he will nurse for 20 minutes or more, then he will sleep for about 3 - 4 hours
Are the short feedings okay? He is peeing between each feeding...
Thanks so much

Welcome to the boards! You say he's peeing between each feeding, but what are his poops like?
It's hard to say whether 10-minute feedings are enough in your situation without more information. Do you hear active swallowing the entire time, or is it non-nutritive sucking? How has baby's weight gain been?

Hi,
he poops ussually between every other feeding about 4 times a day - he was born on Mon June 16 and was 6.9 pounds (he was almost 3 weeks early), then he went down and this Wed June 25 when he was weighed he was 7.1 pounds. He swollows the whole time and I feel like he is sucking really hard the whole time.

Wow, surpassed birthweight at 9 days? And pooping about 4 times a day - big poops? Yellow, runny breastmilk poop? It sounds to me like he's doing great. Just keep doing what you're doing - really try to encourage him to stay awake, but don't beat yourself up over it if he just wants to sleep, as long as he's waking himself up every couple hours to nurse again.
