it's sort of like a bottle nipple,
shaped a little differently and you wear it over your own nipple.
it should be used with an LC's assistance.

You certainly can buy one at the store, why would you? There are problems associated with using one and we could help you discuss other BFing freindly options:)

A nipple shield can be a very effective tool in getting baby to breast. There are different sizes. An LC should be consulted, see LC directory on this site to find one in your area.
