did anybody else that has had a c-section (especially ones that gained alot of weight!) have trouble getting rid of that extra skin?
it's not fat it's just that left over skin. but i have heard that it takes a little longer after a c-section cause of your nerves getting cut. is that accurate?
thanks!

I don't know if it is a result of my c-section, but rather that my son weighed 10 lbs 11 oz that caused the extra skin to be difficult to get rid of.
With DD (8lbs 11 oz and vaginal delivery), I gained 60 lbs and did not have any trouble with extra skin, but it took me about 2 years to lose the weight.
With DS (10 lbs 11 oz and c-section), I also gained 60 lbs and I most certainly DO have problems with the extra belly skin. I have not dropped all my weight yet as he is 1 year old now and it took me 2 years with DD, but I never had this extra skin problem after DD, not before or after losing the weight.
I don't know if it was the c-section or that DS was so big and I carried him really low the last couple of months and it stretched my stomach muscles differently than with DD.

I don't think it has much to do about the weight. I gained 20 pounds during my pregnancy and I still have the skin problem. It's been over 7 months and my skin is still really loose. I've lost all the weight plus some but I still can't wear a lot of my pre pregnancy clothes because of the loose skin on my tummy.

I have had 2 c-sections (traditional ones:() and gained virtually little to no weighth with either pregnancy. Needless to say my belly is not the same nor ever will be without plastic surgery. I think it depends on the integrity of your skin

I have that but now I am pregnant again so that stretch mark hangy skin will be a part of me longer.
I'm the same way! My DD is 4 months and was close to 9 lbs. I gained the average amount of weight and now weigh less than before BUT with the excess skin. I don't think it will go away either without plastic surgery. I hate it since I look skinny from the side, but when I sit down have all this flab! Ugh!!

ahh! so it's not just me! which i'd rather it be none of us! :)
yeah i have the stretch mark hangy skin! ick! i have lost the weight in my belly but i also can't get into most jeans just cause of that. the flab hangs over. i wouldn't be as bothered by a roll. but this flap is just weird.
if anybody has a solution that doesn't involve surgery LET ME KNOW!
i've been doing crunches and dieting (and by diet i mean only one piece of pie...haha) and i feel like i'm just toning everything under that extra skin. ya know? like my real belly is under that.
i gained 70lbs! so i did gain alot and was mostly all belly. my waist started out about 26inches. eek! so it was alot of stretching. plus yeah he was low...and high cause i'm short and he didn't have anywhere else to go.

Eh! I havent been thin in a decadebut when I look at my tummy I want to cry. It is so much worse (for me) than just being chubby. Thank god we only have one full length mirror which I avoid at all costs unless I am dressed! I call it "my curtain" cuz thats what it feels like! A curtain of flesh!! I used to be able to see "down there" to shave- now I have to push "my curtain" around and I still cant see! I feel soo self-conscious (sp?) during sex and wearing a bathing suit. DH doesnt understand he thinks if I lose weight it will go away- ahh men what do they know. Luckily he thinks I am sexy even with my curtain.

Yeah I had a c/section. My baby was 8 12 and I gained around 40 lbs. (I was chubs to begin with too). He's 6 months now and I'm several lbs my pre-preg weight thanks in large part to breastfeeding (woooohoooooo!!!!!) but i still have a huge floppy belly. I workout a ton and do lots o sit ups but I think it just takes time...it took 9 months to get this way, maybe it takes longer to bounce back...maybe it never does. I've got a beautiful perfect baby and i don't really care...i'm not a bikini mama anyway!

when i have on looser pants that fit right under my belly button on my hips it looks okay...but then when i take off my pants and see that icky floppy thing i'm so depressed.
yeah guys definitely don't understand at all. and some women that have better luck don't either!

I wore a belly band that I bought at a maternity store for a few weeks. I actually stopped and bought it on the way home from the hospital because it felt like my guts were going to fall out. Having all the extra skin felt really weird. Anyway, the belly band worked great at getting rid of the bulk of the skin. The one I have is way too big to use now but I think that if I bought another one, it would probably help. I refuse to wear one in the summer. It gets up to 115 here. I would feel like a stuffed sausage.
This is what I bought.

I found that scrubbing the skin occasionally with a body brush seems to be helping it regain some tone. At least, it isn't hurting anything and I think it's helping.

lama-yeah the hospital gave me one of those bands but it eventually got too big. do you think tummy control panties may do the same thing? cause i could find those at walmart.
singing mom- A:what is a body brush? B:where can i get one? C:Do you use it with soap like in the shower or with lotion?
ahh thanks ladies!

My body brush is a bath brush- you know, a long handled brush intended for scrubbing your back. I use it with soap in the shower.

They gave me one of those to wear after my c-section. I also use the dry skin brushing on my belly.

I am certain only surgery will fix my case. I have tons of extra skin. I know it's not fat since I actually was underweight and underfat and it was elephant skin there. I got pg at 113 with my son and was 96lbs with 10% body fat when he was 18 months due to my training. My waist was still too large for the clothes I wore before him! I'm a petite 5'1" and very short waisted. My son was 10lb 8oz. My daughter was 11lb 4oz. Need I say more?!

Yes, I have it, but it's a result of my skin being stretched out, not a result of a c-section. Mama's who have vaginal births get loose saggy skin. And Mama's who have c-cections can have totally flat abs. It's all about skin elasticity, imo.

I agree. I don't think I have much collagen in my skin, and i have a fun bag from babies (they both sat very differently). I keep telling this baby, brother and sister already paved the way. He doesn't need to leave any marks. :)

beach mama- what if my elasticity isn't great? what do i do? it just looks funny around my scar that's why i figured it was just from the c-section cause i have also only heard other c-section mommas complain. do you have a cure or am i S.O.L?
steph- at least they made it nice and roomie for the next one! :)
