Check it out. He was a VERY silent flyer. I've been hearing him hoot for sometime now. This is the first time we've come eye-to-eye. I agree with the Native Americans; they are creepy critters!

They are so gorgeous. I love them. I like them so much that I used to collect owl figurines.

The dogs never even saw or heard him. I've only ever seen one bigger owl in my life and that was a Great Horned Owl that attacked me!
Most confusing thread title EVER!
I was like, "I see Mexicans everywhere I go...why is this news?!"
LMAO

It's a beautiful owl! We kept hearing a hoot owl last night, but we didn't see it. Twice in the past, though, we've had the hell scared out of us by what we thought was a screech owl.

Gigi, I thought the same thing. I thought, "Well, damn, if that's exciting to you, you should have been with me tonight!" "lol9"

Well, I have a partially Mexican household, so there! :p
I live in the Winter Strawberry Capital of the World, home to some of the largest migrant populations in the nation (we also have miles and miles of orange groves in PC).
60% of my students are Hispanic/Latino. 45% of them are migrant.
My XH's father was Argentinean, making my kid 1/4 South American!
So, THERE! LOL
I still think that's a freakin' hilarious thread title!!!
:D

Gigi,South American and Mexican are not the same. Most Mexicans would be pissed to be told otherwise!
And my kids are 1/4 Mexican on their father's side of the family. So there!!

Yes, I know...I was just being silly and playing off of Judy's "so there!"
I do have a question, though...is Argentinean considered Latino? I always thought not, but XH said it was.
Anyone? Bueller?

I was messing with you! I am from South America and the Mexicans around here get mad when you say they are SA.
Yes,we are considered Hispanic or Latino(ethnic wise),but we like the Mexicans can be white, black, native american.
Thanks!
I was never sure how to refer to his heritage (was he Latino, Spanish, South American, etc) when talking about it with other people!

Around here the reverse is true as well. Central and South Americans, Puerto Ricans, and Cubans freak the hell out if someone thinks they're Mexican. I think about 90% of our Hispanic/Latino population is Mexican, though.

Based on the way you've described him, "jackass" fits best. ;)

To be fair, the SA also do not like to be confused as Mexican either.
I have actually had Mexicans tell me we are a bunch of stuck up snobs who think we are better than they are.

I call myself an American mutt. My ancestry pretty much covers all of Europe, probably a portion of the Middle East (if one person who sent me a line of my family tree is accurate), and Cherokee and Creek Indian. Dh is Puerto Rican (ancestry of all sorts), Mexican (Spanish and Native American--not sure which tribe), and probably a little Italian (he's not 100% sure about one of his grandparents).

LOL. I've told this before, but dsd is basically 1/2 Cuban, 1/4 Puerto Rican, and 1/4 Mexican, yet at school the Mexicans shunned her at times and told her that she wasn't "Mexican enough for them." It hurt her feelings really bad. The school is nearly 40% Latino, the majority of whom are Mexican.
Pretty much the same here...I'm Irish/German/Choctaw and XH is Argentinean/Italian (that I know of...neither of his family sides are close so I never really learned much about his heritage).
So that makes Natalie a bit of a "Heinz 57!"

I live in Ca so you know if you see someone who isn't Mexican, they're probably related to one or Mexican by injection, lol.
Anyway, that owl is awesome. I love owls.

Such beautiful things. My mom and I would sit out on our porch and there was three little ones that would sit on a ladder we had up. One stared mom down for long time and mom stared back and told it "I'm too big for you" It let out a Hoo and flew off.
I've been hearing one around here, haven't seen it yet. And DH once had one fly right into our car and bust the front windshield (how can you hit a bird like that only going 40??).

Web had a cute little owl live in our back porch railing (it was hollow). One day I just leaned over and looked down and it looked back at me, I think I was more startled.

I don't know. I was wearing a hat and fishing at the time. Maybe I got too close to it's nest or something. I do know it scared the daylights out of me. Those things are huge and I never saw it coming. At the last second, I heard a "whoosh", and I flinched, turned around and saw two huge sets of talons coming at my head and an even bigger set of wings. One more "whoosh" and it was gone. That was more than 20 years ago, and it still gives me the willies.
