2-year-old dies after left in hot car in Houston

Associated Press - July 14, 2008 2:35 PM ET

HOUSTON (AP) - An autopsy has been ordered on a 2-year-old boy who was left in a car in Houston on a day when temperatures were in the mid-90s.

Investigators believe a relative forgot that Angel Ace Castillo was in the vehicle.

Police say it appears an uncle had taken several children to an apartment complex to swim when the toddler was left in the car Sunday afternoon.

Police say the uncle apparently believed other relatives had the child.

Prosecutors will decide whether to file charges.

aww that is horrible...there was a case like that for me when I was running fire rescue...Dad thought the mom had the son, and vice versa....son had climbed onto the wood pile in the back yard..it had fallen on him, and he sufficated... I am glad I don't do fire rescue anymore, not that the ER is much better though :( I am sorry to hear that though, just breaks my heart

Has anyone heard about the car seat that alerts you, as you are getting out of the vehicle, to remember to get you child? I saw it on the news last year, some mother invented it. To be more specific, it's not really a car seat but a sensor that put on the car seat and the receiver is attached to the dash.

Yeah I have heard of it. Our injury prevention department hands out teddy bears when they do carseat inspections. The parent is supposed to put the bear on the front seat to remind them that the baby is with them.

Oh I wish I hadn't opened this thread. That poor poor baby. :( I can't even imagine not remembering to get my babies out of the car. Owen is very vocal and definitley helps me remember, he hates it when I get out of the car without him (though if I ever walk away from the car there is ALWAYS someone with him) So sad, and trajic, and completely senseless.

That poor baby! And the poor uncle.

I put my purse in the backseat when my kids were infants. That way I had to look in the back before I got out of the car.

My friend thought her dh had taken her son to daycare. Both were leaving at the same time and she ran back in to grab something she'd forgotten. He yelled into her, "I'm late. Can you take Trevor to daycare?" she heard, "I'm late and I'm taking Trevor to daycare." She came out as he was in his car in the driveway and they waved good-bye. Luckily she had a pretty long commute and he woke up and started crying before she got there and parked the car for the day.

Oh that is so scary she is lucky her baby woke up. I would have freaked out and would probably still be shaking.
