Amoxicillin
and
I'm going to have to have oral surgery with IV sedation. They are going to use Nubain and Versed. Dentist recommended pump and dump for 24 hours after. DD only nurses 1-2 times a day (she's 2) usually at night. Will it be necessary to pump and dump?

Amoxi is safe (L1).
Nubain is safe too, L2. No pediatric concerns are reported via milk. Half life is 5 hours, the meds peak at 2-15 min. If you take it right after she nursed you should be golden :).
Versed is an L3 (moderately safe) and as such should only be taken if the benefits outweight the risk. BUT it's a very short acting medication, half life is 2-5 hours, peak is 20-50 min. In one study it wasn't detectable after 4 hours so my suggestion would be to take if after your baby nursed. Adult concerns are sedation and respiratory depression but there are no pediatric concerns reported in several studies. Soooo, if it were me, with an older child who nurses infrequently I would not pump and dump.

Thanks.
My procedure is going to be at 1pm and she won't breastfeed until bedtime which will be around 9. That will be 7-8 hours later, so I think we are alright without pumping. Yay!

I kinda giggled when I read Nubain. Apparently, Dr. Haman's not the only doc that still prescribes that, ;) (inside joke)
Let me know what you think about it!

I was kind of thrown off by the nubain also. He said they use to give Demerol but now Nubain is the drug of choice. We'll see. ;)

Ugggh! I hate going to the dentist, oral surgeon no less. Last time I had to get 3 shots of novocaine for a filling. I told my dentist I'd rather be pushing out a baby then getting a filling. I think I hurt his feelings. lol.
What pain meds do you plan to take after you wake up, if any?

That was the one question I forgot to ask him. I have a very high pain tolerance; but I would like to have a prescription for something just in case. Years ago when I had my wisdom teeth extracted I didn't take anything except some Tylenol and felt great.
