Today I had to go see a specialist about a dental procedure I'm going to have done soon. After the dentist went over what meds they would give me for the IV sedation I asked if he knew if they were okay to take while breastfeeding.

He asked how old my baby was and I said well she's not a baby anymore she's 2. He said, wow! That is so great you are still breastfeeding. How wonderful for you to keep breastfeeding her for so long. That is the healthiest thing you can do for your child. For her to be getting all those antiboties passed on to her is just great! He just went on and on about how wonderful he thought that was.

It felt great to get praise from a total stranger, especially since it is not the norm to breastfeed a toddler and you never know what kind of response you are going to get.

Now if he owned a copy of "mothersmilk and medication" to soothe his client's worries about sedation and pain relief after surgery I'd be really impressed LOL. Great that you found someone supportive. Wish it were the norm :).

That's awesome! Mine freaked out when I needed work done and asked if I could still bf and ds was under 1 year.

How wonderful! It is so nice to hear encouraging words from outsiders.

It's definitely nice to hear encouraging words from people. I had SUCH a hard time nursing my son, I wasn't even able to actually get him on the breast until 4 months, so I loved it when I was out and a woman thanked me for breastfeeding. This was just a month or so ago and I have no problem NIP but usually all I get are weird looks. But this woman (she was a little bit older) said thank you for breastfeeding and that she doesn't see much of it these days. She also said she knew how hard it is to nurse but that she nursed her 3 kids. I know she was thanking me but that just totally made my day (it actually made the all the hard work I did worthwhile) so thanks to whomever she was.

That was really nice of her. I always try to make a point to say something or at least smile at a mom I see NIP.
