My baby is 3 weeks old and seems to be showing a preference to one breast over the other...he latches to my left breast and feeds for a max of five minutes and then shows a disinterest in latching to that side any longer...but will take the right side. I was/am worried that he has thrush, but am not sure...
When my milk lets down, there is some shooting pain in both breats but nothing intense. My son's mouth is usually a little white after feeding, but does not seem to stay white.
Is there possible something wrong with the left breast?
He is also very gassy after feeding from either side?

I really do not think that there is anything wrong with your left side but you can check with a LC to make sure. My ds was gassy too but it was because of foods that I ate. So for gas maybe you need to watch what you eat.

my daughter went through a faze like that for about a month. she would only have the left breast. I was worried about not being able to produce from the right breast eventually so I would just pump that side after feeding her the left. now she s 5 months old and takes both.

I went through a time when i couldn't get my DS to take my right breast unless he was asleep! I had a daytime boob and a nighttime boob for a little while. I finally figured out it was a position thing more than a boob thing. He liked to lay in the same direction so I had to nurse him cradle on one side and football on the other. He grew out of it eventually.

Perhaps the sharp pain you feel is your letdown? Mine always felt like a burning. I don't knwo if that could be it or not, someone else may have a better idea.

As for gassy, yeah, we're gassy here too, we say it runs in the family! I might only suggest stopping to burp more often. but really it could be just one of those things. You could keep a food journal to see if there may be something in your diet affecting it more than anything else. I tried that and found he was just a gassy baby. Lots of leg bicycling and tummy time across the lap to work it out.

My son is 7.5 months old and he favours my left side. This has really affected my milk supply on my right side, it has gone down alot.

Phew. It's good to know that I am not alone. I did speak with an LC and my pediatrician and we're actually trying zantac for the post feeding fuss/gas. My poor little guy would be miserable for two or so hours after eating only to have to start the whole cycle again by eating when he finally subsided.
