Thomas Arthur's case in Alabama.

His execution date is July 31st and he will be the first death row inmate executed without his 1st Habeas Corpus Review.

Why is this even happening in the U.S.?

I didn't see anything about the habeas corpus review. However, this bothers me a lot:

Advocates including Amnesty International and The Innocence Project have championed Arthur's case because witnesses changed testimony between his second and third trials, saying they had been bribed or pressured to testify for the prosecution. Advocates also have said they believe modern DNA testing could prove he is innocent. The U.S. Supreme Court turned back Arthur's request for DNA testing.

It says he had a prior murder conviction, so he is not some innocent lamb and more than likely did commit the crime.

Despite being very pro death penalty, if there is any real doubt, I do think it needs to be looked at closely. I do not agree with executing when there is strong evidence to suggest otherwise.

Yeah, that link doesn't mention anything about his habeas corpus review, but here's a little more about it...

That part you mentioned bothers me too. This could be a wrongful execution. Amnesty International is trying hard to see if he could get a change regarding the DNA testing.

ETA: Old article with older execution date, but still, he hasn't had a habeas corpus review.

I used to be pro death penalty until I learned about many, many wrongful executions. Very sad stories.

I am anti death penalty for a very unusual reason. I am anti death penalty to protect me from myself.

If soeone hurt either one fo my sons, my husband, etc I would have the undying urge to watch the fucker fry. Yet I knwo in my heart of hearts that it's not okay to want that. So I am anti death penalty to protect em from myself.
