She finally started latching on and she has been nursing pretty well for about 4 weeks now. But lately at night time she refuses the breast and she wails around. If I give her a little taste of gas drops she will immediately latch on. I'm not sure if its the sweetness or what. What could this be? And is it bad to let her have a taste of the gas drops to get her to nurse?

What exactly are you doing with the gas drops? Are you putting it on your nipple, or?

No I'm giving it to her in the dropper and then after they touch her tongue she will usually nurse.

It very well could be the sweetness that is initially satisfying her. I wouldn't use the gas drops if you don't suspect gas.

You say your giving her a taste? Does that mean that your not giving her a full dose?

Fussy evenings (http://www.kellymom.com/babyconcerns/fussy-evening.html) are a very normal part of infant communication. It is a short phase, if you wanted some help with it, you could read Happiest baby on the block by Dr. Harvey Karp.

Well orginally I was giving her a taste because I was thinking that she wasn't feeling well but now it just seems sometimes she just wants the sweetness of it. So now instead of giving her a dose of it I'm just letting her taste it to get her going but I would really just like to go back to just nursing her without doing this. Today she has been doing well but she still is really fussy with the breast and I have to try for like 5 minutes to get her to latch.
