Patrick did pretty good during the test The doctor said his anatomy (stomach, esophagus) looked normal and he did find a slight instance of reflux. The ped yesterday said it was moderate reflux of the middle and lower esophagus. We're trying him on Prevacid, but it isn't going to cure the recurrent vomitting. We also need to take him to a pediatric gastroenterologist - please excuse my spelling. The ped didn't give us a specific reason, only a vague "I'm worried there is something else going on - it's better to have it checked out" On a bright note, his weigh in yesterday showed a gain of 4 ounces. They also had me weigh a diaper to gauge urine output (7 ounces - way to go Patrick!).

Glad it went well. YOu could press the pedi for more info, personally, I hate it when they keep you in the dark about what *they* are concerned about. My son's weight gain slowed tremendeously from around 9 mo to 15 mo, in fact he moved from the 50th percentile at 6 mo to the 5th at 15 mo. I felt he was healthy, just too busy to eat/nurse and later at around 15 mo it dawned to me that he was lactose sensitive so we cut out milk for a while (he was pooping five times a day and it was mostly very soft).

Why I am telling you this? :) - we did see a GI who tested my son for celiac and cystic firbrosis. These were the concerns our pedi had. He tested neg for both and today is a vibrant, funny SKINNY four year old. He is still in the 5th percentile and he most probably won't be taller than me (I am 5 '7). His sister is following the same curve - born in the 50th, now in the 5th. So I guess this is genetic.

Thank you so much for sharing this. My oldest is weighing in at 30 pounds at 3 years old. He's skinny and short. He too slowed in his growth after 6 months. Patrick has been a peanut from the start - smaller even than big brother at this age. At birth he was in the 12% and now has completely dropped off the growth chart. I did check with the ped, and they are using the "general" (formula based) chart. He is happy, and reaching his milestones, so we're trying to focus on this right now. I did call the ped's office today and the phone nurse told me that the ped marked in the chart that she's concerned Patrick isn't absorbing/metabolizing his food effeciently/correctly and that is the reason for the referral.

I think it's OK to do some tests but I wouldn't be overly concerned since his older brother is petite as well. I wasn't sorry that we tested ds. I won't test dd though since she is following her older brother almost to the T.
