Is it okay to breastfeed while your pregnant if you are cramping? DS still nurses a couple of times a day and when he does I start having mild cramps. It just worries me. He is 2 1/2 and he is still attached to the BB's and I would hate to stop him. I already have to cut his time short on the breast because of sore nipples. I just need to know that the cramping is not going to cause a miscarriage. Oh, and I am 7wks along if that makes a difference.

As long as you do not have a history of preterm labor, you should be fine. You should pick up a copy of The adventures of tandem nursing by Hilary Flower

I have a history of miscarriage, and I'm still allowed to nurse while pregnant. In fact, it wasn't until my 5th miscarriage that it was mentioned to me that nursing while pg might be a gray area for me. In my case, they aren't sure why I keep miscarrying. So the drs figure that if there's a chance nursing adds to it, then I might not want to do it as a just in case. However, I nursed DS successfully through my pg with DD. And two of my losses were not while nursing. So, I'm not convinced that it's an issue - and neither are they but you get to a point where you're grasping at air with so many losses.
If you have a history of recurrent pregnancy loss - at least three losses - then there is chance that it makes sense to wean. But there's just as much a chance, if not more of a chance, that it's fine to nurse in that situation. So I do what I'm comfortable with. My DD is still nursing though I shorten the nursing sessions if I feel any cramping. When I was pg with DD, I didn't worry if I had any cramping and that pg worked out very well.
*The genericl rule is that if you aren't on pelvic rest, then you can definately nurse. I am on pelvic rest but it's a just-in-case situation.
