I am not tandem nursing just yet. I have about 3 more months to go but it looks like I probably will be. Which is great!

BUT... I have a tenancy to worry, probably needlessly but I can't help it! :D

My latest worry is about my DS's nursing style. He is not truly sucking right now. I have colostrum in and I think he just doesn't like the taste. He does suck a little and his latch is perfect but he isn't getting the colostrum out because I can almost always squeeze out a lot of it after he nurses.

So now I am worried that once my milk comes back in he won't get that out right either. Is that possible?

We just finished night weaning and at this point I don't even let him nurse in bed in the morning because it is too uncomfortable for me. But I have been looking forward to letting him nurse when he first wakes again once my milk is back and he starts nursing to drink instead of just hanging out on my nipple. But I am wondering if he has forgotten how to suck the milk out properly. Is that even possible?

If he has forgotten, when my milk come back in will he figure it out?

Yes.

At least, mine did. And quickly. And I think the bountiful milk supply made him very happy to see his new sister.

It varies for each child, you cannot predict it. I hope that you get what you wish for:)

Oh how I do know this! That is why I worry too I guess is I hate not being able to predict. It is one of the biggest things about parenting that I am learning to live with. I am such a planner and I am finding with children planning is not usually much of an option.

I am still hoping for the odds though and that most moms who have been through this will say, "Oh yeah, my LO did this and went back to nursing just fine once the milk came in, happily in fact!"

My DS latched on without sucking properly when my milk first came in. However, we had talked about how the baby was going to need it all the time since that's the only thing she could eat. So, I think he was worried there wouldn't be enough for both of them! Once I talked to him about this, he was able to latch on and nurse easily.

I found tandem nursing easy - though I learned the hard way to assign each child a side. (DD could have both sides but DS could only have the one). Before I assigned signs, DD didn't get enough hindmilk.
