I've actually heard of a case where a "woman" had the Y chromosome but she had some kind of allergic reaction? "In Utero" to Testosterone ..... Something about the body not acknowledging it .... so because it was so early in the development the baby grew little girl parts instead of little boy parts.
She grew up like any other girl and got married and it was only when she wanted to have kids that this was discovered. Genetically she was a boy but physically, emotionally and every way in life she was a girl.

Yeah I watch too many medical shows :p

Though I'm against this testing, I do understand why they're only testing women. Women's bodies are generally at a disadvantage physically in sports. A man pretending to be a woman would have a biological advantage. While a woman pretending to be a man wouldn't.

Testing for gender has been happening since 1960-something or other. It's not new.

according to what I heard on the radio (NPR) yesterday, they use to test all female athletes. After the Atlanta games (I think) they switched to a suspicion based model.

I think it's icky. I think the way it's handled could potentially make it much more icky. But I understand why it might need to be done.

To be fair, this isn't new. Sex control was done in Lillehammer and Calgary Winter Olympics as well that I'm absolutely sure of.

Not that China isn't fucked, but this isn't the first time that such a thing will be done.

I was talking more about the United States and the fact that any
Medically altered person is on record. And I'm assuming that athletes
may use a locker room type setting to get dressed. Wouldn't someone
figure out is a girl was sporting an extra part?
and aren't there medical records required on these athletes I thought all
Serious Athletes had to be followed medically to make sure they are
completely fit and watch in case they get hurt.
However I could see there being an issue (in let's say a Communist Country)
where the Government RULES everything. And records can be falsified.

So yeah I guess I CAN see the possible necessity of testing. However it doesn't mean I have to like it. :(

I don't know all the possibilities, but one possible condition is that she lacks the genes to make the receptors that respond to male sex hormones, and so male characteristics do not develop or are very very underdeveloped. So the Y chromosome is there, but not the typical male body characteristics.
