DD3 is going for her 18mo check up today and I just wanted to know what kind of milestones she should be reaching at this stage. She is a climber and babbles a lot but still does not really talk. She will repeat words only once and she will only whisper all the words she knows except for mama and dada and she likes to yell those names out.

At 18 months, I think the check list was "says 15 words." But words means any sound they use repeatly for the same object. Mama and dada count. Even moo to mean cow counts. So, count the consistant sound effects too. Whispering words also count as words. My son was behind on word number at 18 months and the dr took a wait and see approach since he was babbling quite a bit. At 21 months his vocabulary exploded and has been way above average since he turned 2.

This is what I found for milestones for an 18 month old.

Development
Walks fast, walks up stairs with one hand held, kicks a ball.
Uses a vocabulary of four to 10 words and may combine two-word phrases.
Understands simple directions.
Points to some body parts correctly.
Shows affection by kissing parents.
Feeds himself or herself, drinks from a cup adequately and uses a spoon.
Imitates a crayon stroke on paper.
Holds and "loves" a doll or stuffed animal; may use a household-type toy (for example, a toy telephone) appropriately.
Will sit for a short time and look at pictures in a book. Turns single pages in book or magazine

Does holding a spoon in one hand and eating with the other count? As far as the kissing part well it is a bed time ritual that she does, she goes back and forth between me and DH until she falls asleep. The other day she wrote all over dd1's note book with eyeliner and lip gloss so I guess you can say she can color. ;)

Thanks JM. I am curious about her weight cuz she seems a little thinner but she is very active.

She got her hemoglobin checked at 15mos and it was on the lowest side of normal but the pedi was not worried and said she would re-check it at this visit. My mom has been giving her some cream of wheat for breakfast every now and then and she puts raisens in it and she loves it. She is not on any kind of iron supplements so hopefully she is ok.
