Allergy

I am going to have my baby in the next week. I am really excited about breastfeeding. I have asked other moms and they are unsure of my #1 question. I am allergic to chicken. The reaction is not followed by rash or anything but a horrible stomach ache with intestinal problems for a couple of days. Can this be passed on to my baby? If I were to eat chicken could she suffer?

Allergies can be hereditary even when a baby is exclusively breastfed and it does sound like chicken doesn't agree with you.

I don't usually counsel a mother to stop eating a certain food unless the baby starts showing a sensitivity because it may never be a problem for your baby. Other LC's may disagree with me.

Is this a recent problem for you or have you dealt with this all your life?
