DS has had a horrible week...I posted about an on and off again fever, loose bms, diaper rash from that, and now a body rash...wanting to nurse then not wanting to ect ect.

all he does (seemingly) is cry and want me to hold him. DH can't hold him b/c he wants only me.

PLz assure me giving him formula will not stop any of this and will just make it worse...i know this but need a kick in the butt to keep going...

Formula would definitely make things worse--probably upsetting his tummy, either constipating him related to the iron content, or give him diarrhea due to the milk protein.

Not to mention the fact that there are no immunities in formula to help him overcome this illness. And that he would likely derive no comfort from sucking on a bottle, which is what he is primarily getting from you b/c he doesn't feel good.

The fever is probably realted to whatever virus he's had...

Can you wear him in a sling for a while?

(how's your butt feel now? :) )

He has a full-body rash? Have you taken him to the Dr. yet? This sounds like Shaymus and another poster as I recall when they had Scarlett Fever, that could explain the non-stop crying too.

:) thanks! I haven't given him any but i was seriously considering partial weaning b/c im so worn out...

my husband is supportive but when i start to "tetter on the brink" its like "ok if you don't wanna keep bfing dont, its ok, hell love you either way"

tomorrow i'll take him and DD out for a bit so he can go in the sling.

I needed that, i've worked too hard to give up now just b/c he's not feeling well and needing me more ...

OMG...no i didnt take him to the doc. the peds on vaca til the 11th and i thought it was viral or contact derm. (he suffers eczema normally, both kids do)

No fever today or most of yest though. still alert just very needy.

ETA he does stop crying but only when being held (he's been demanding since birth but even moreso lately)

I probably wouldn't go to the doctor for a post-viral rash. Google it--probably, but if he's not having fever any longer I wouldn't freak.

i assumed it was teething first then just viral since we had had :

1. nasty, mucousy poos frequently

2. Fever, but never over 100.9 (i monitored closely)

3. then, as the fever went, here came the rash.

No one else has been sick, and we also just moved a week ago, so I thought perhaps there was something here that irritated his skin. He is still nursing...

Could it be roseola?

My DS1 gets a rash every time he's had a fever. Usually when he breaks out in a rash, it means the fever has broken. (Although all 4 times he's had strep, he's also broken out in a rash, so it usually means one of those two things). The first time he had it, I took him to the ped. She said not worry about it, it would go away on its own. She was right....it always did.

I would say if you are truly considering formula, you should definitely take him to the doctor first, before going that route.

In fact, if I were in your situation, I would just take my kid to the doctor, just to make sure it wasn't serious, and also to get information and support. Somehow, if I know that an illness or hardship is likely to last X number of days, it makes it easier to slog through, rather than being in limbo, wondering when it will end.

Take care of DS, and take care of yourself - breast milk is the best thing you can give him right now, and the neediness is temporary - I promise!

Usually with roseolla you would have a high fever (104 -105) and then a rash after the fever breaks.
