well i am so excited i had to post it here. i know i don't post or say much, but i have been trying to catch this rat for a couple months now. he is huge! i have tried every trap, poison, etc and he wont take the bait. so i set the trap yet again, and before i could get is set the trap catches me! i broke my knuckle, but i digress, that is not the exciting part. the exciting part is i finally caught him! i put a vegan burger in the trap this time. well, low and behold, i guess he was purely vegan...he took the bait..haha! i got him! he is a foot long with his tail! 7 inches with just his body!!!

ok, just had to say it! i am so happy! :)

That is great. That is a much better way to get ride of one than what happened in our house. Our rat died in the wall of the playroom. We had to let it air out because there was no way in hell I was going to have DH tear apart plaster walls that were very well put up 98yrs ago.

oh my gosh! that is horrible Still_me!

i am so glad he did not eat the poison! because he may have died in the wall. this mug chewed a hole in the wall! i don't even know how he could have gotten in the wall. i live in a slab...

now, let me tell you how long i have been trying to catch him....since christmas. no joke. this is the smartest rat i have ever seen in my life. he has taken over a bed room in my house and proceeded to eat dog food on the bed! he thought he was this shiz!

i just could not have a cat here because i am allergic and i have two LARGE LABs who would tear it apart (altho they could care less about the rat!) and i am severely allergic as well.

BUT ONLY IF I COULD HAVE FOUND A HAIRLESS CAT!!! AHHH! :)

Rats can eat through concrete. They are disgusting creatures, yet I am fascinated by them.

I should of bought stock in Nag Champa. Do you know how many sticks I went through?!?

WOW! so how long did it take to get rid of the smell?

At first I thought a month, but then once it started the freeze/thaw cycle at the end of winter, it took about 2 months. It drove me crazy because my sense of smell is pretty good and DH's sucks. I would walk around trying to find where it was in the room. lol

Rats are actually very intelligent, trainable, and make great pets.

Not that I'm saying Christmas Tree should have kept hers as a pet.

you know what...i actually thought about it...he looked so cute and had such a nice coat, he was grey. he would eat dog food out of the dog bowl and look at me as if to say. "this is my house B****") awww how sweet :) lol he was funny as hell really. i think he and my dogs had it up on me. i think the rat taught them how to get in the fridge and they sat up watching TV all day while was gone eating cheese slices...that yes, were unwrapped....haha

i tried my best to catch him in a live trap but he was too smart.

Alas, we had to do it the sad and hard way...

poor Fred...poor Fred....

i will always fondly remember how he used to grab food from the dog bowl while i was asleep and take it in his room and put it all in a little pile in the corner of the bed....

*sniff* i miss him...LOL

i think he may have been a field rat? i know he was a boy because there were no baby rats around. thus the name Fred.

Yes, very much of the feline persuasion...maybe he was raised along side a kitty family...

kind of like the squirrel who lost his mother...

Farewell Fredrick Von Rat-in-house-n.

Aw, that's kind of a nice name.

Wait a minute. Are we supposed to be happy you caught the rat or sad?..I'm not so sure anymore.

Pet rats are adorable, wild rats, nit so much. Rats are very bright and can be litter trained and trained to respond to their names.

Google the diseases that rats carry and how they travel along walls and such to get where they are going. I'd lay down $10 you'll be scrubbing along walls, by the fridge, and stove by the time you are done reading about it. Mine wasn't even in the house and I was scrubbing away just in case he had ever broken in.

BTW, ours would take food off of the bird feeders and run up our down spouts to hide it. We heard him in the attic wall and knew the bugger was in the house. The last thing I wanted was a rat chewing on our wires, starting a fire, and burning down the house.

I started to think like Carl.

I'm sorry.

You need a pet rat. I've heard you won't have problems with vermin if you keep a pet rat or two. Not sure how true that is, but I don't recall having any mice when I had my pet rats. (could have been that they just refrained from crapping in the cupboards, though, IDK).

yeah, maybe i need a pet rat...

but do they really carry diseases? what is the difference in Fred and the rat at the pet store? as far as diseases are concerned?
