Since I'm going to be certified in teaching special education K-12, all severities of disabilities, I have to student teach at each level.

Last spring I taught at the junior high level in a class of students with learning disabilities.

This fall I'll be teaching elementary school for 8 weeks then high school for the last 8 weeks. I knew that part but I didn't know what type of classrooms I'll be in.

My cooperating teacher from the elementary school just called me. He said his class is for students with behavioral/emotional disorders and he will have 7 students this year, almost all boys. I'm excited =)

That *should* mean that my last 8 weeks in high school *should* be a self-contained classroom for students with moderate-severe disabilties. I say *should* because it doesn't always work out for everyone to get each level of severity. I really hope so though. I'm really looking forward to working in a more severe classroom.

Anywho, I'm just excited about finding out my placements for the fall and thought I'd share.

Now I have to go get my TB test next week before school starts. I hate shots!

That sounds good! I'm glad you're excited.

FWIW, the TB test is a little different from an actual shot. Oddly enough, teachers aren't tested here.

enjoy it! Student teaching was good fun and such a learning opportunity:) I loved my ED -4/5 placement. I think working with the behavior challenged/ emotionally challenged classes were my favorite. I think those students enjoy a fresh face as well, someone with no pre-conceived notions about them. Its a good clean slate for a group of students that unfortunately never gets the clean slate so to speak.

Quilty - I know, I'm almost done!!!!

Judy - It's been awhile since I've had a TB test, but I remember I have to go back in 2 days after I have it done to get it checked. I'll also be getting my Depo shot while I'm there, so it'll be like a shot day for me lol.

Stillme- I'll be completely done and certified this December! I'm sooooo excited! I've only been in college off and on since 1995 lol.

Bfmomworries - ITA! So far my student teaching experience has been AWESOME. I had an amazing teacher when I was teaching junior high last spring and she helped me take advantage of every learning opportunity I could. Outside of the classroom experience, she also took me to IEP meetings, board meetings, faculty lunches and introduced me (and bragged about me) to important people in the district =)

I am especially excited about working with these kiddos this fall. The junior high kids didn't challenge me too much behaviorally so I don't have much of that kind of experience under my belt just yet. I hope though, that my cooperating teacher is as supportive as my last teacher was.

BHF and billysmom - thanks =)

I found working in the EBD classroom to be extremely rewarding. Watching those guys grow and become part of the community and thrive was HUGELY rewarding.

Ouch. That doesn't sound fun. Unfortunately, I test positive for having been exposed to TB, so I'm not supposed to ever take another TB test.
