I woke up this morning with a funny feeling in my throat, At first I thought it was just because my nose was a little stuffy (I don't have a cold, I just wake up that way sometimes) so I went to blow my nose and encountered pain in the back of my throat.

I looked in the mirror and my uvula (the fleshy thing that hangs in the back of your throat) is swollen enough to hang down far enough to touch my tounge. It is rather annoying. I'm not sure if this is something I should see a doctor for or just wait it out. I can't take ibuprofen because I am 20 weeks pregnant, so Im not sure what I can do for the swelling.

It doesn't seem to be affecting my breathing but it does seem harder to swallow, and it's freaking me out a little bit.

I haven't had any other symptoms, no sore throat, no cough, only a slightly stuffy nose, which has been on and off since I was about 14 weeks pregnant.

Dh is at work and Im home alone with the kids. I could call him as he is in town, but im not sure if I should wait this out or run to the doc. Help?????

I think that you should call the doctor. My boss had a swollen uvula and they kept him at the doctor's office (or maybe actually an ER) and gave him anti-histimines.

I hope it resovles quickly and isn't too much of a hassle to take care of.

I'd go to the doc. Better safe than sorry, being 20 weeks pregnant and a Friday.

i just took some benedryl, i wonder if that will help? I called my docs office and they are closed today, urgent care doesnt take my insurance so that means sitting at th ER :( We can't really afford for dh to take off work, I would have to take the kids with me a guess, which would basically be a nightmare.

Well then, I would sit tight and see if the benedryl helps. Sitting in the er tomorrow without kids sounds alot better than going today with the kids, lol. I hope you feel better soon!

thanks. I think the benedryl is helping. I took the liquid kind and I think I am just going to take a couple teaspoons every 4 hours today. It's so weird that it doesn't hurt or anything. The swelling has gone down enough that I just has some pudding and some toast. Stranger things have happened I guess. I hope the swelling keeps going down, I don't think I have felt anything more annoying!

I wouldn't worry too much about it.
A very simple explanation, snoring causes it. You said you went to sleep with stuffy nose that could have easily caused you to snore a lot, even if you didn't realize it. Snoring irritates your uvula which gets inflamed and swollen. I get it 2-3 times a year. Just drink a lot of cold water and eat ice cream... Anything that is cold will help reduce the inflammation. If your throat hurts as well, that's a cause for worry.
Hope you find this helpful.
