I don't know why I haven't caught on to this sooner, but this has got to be the best way to save money on gas that there is!

When you have the Giant Eagle Advantage card (free to sign-up), Giant Eagle offers 20 cents off per gallon of gas (up to 30 gallons) for every $50 you spend there. Those are great fuel-perks!

Just so happens that a lot of gorcery stores are selling gift cards for a bazillion different retailers including general Visa/AmEx/MC gift cards. Hell, even restaurants. When you buy any of these gift cards and you swipe you Giant Eagle Advantage card at the check out, that money goes towards your fuel-perks.

Case in point, we had to buy a new kitchen faucet and garbage disposal yesterday and those 2 items came to about $200 at Home Depot. We went to Giant Eagle, bought a $200 Home Depot gift card and then went and got the faucet and garbage disposal. The $200 we spent on the Home Depot gift card at Giant Eagle earned us 80 cents off each gallon of gas up to 30 gallons and that $200 plus the $150 we spent on groceries there last week added up to a grand total of $1.40 off per gallon!!!

DH filled his car (20 gal tank) and we bought two 5 gallon gas cans and filled those up too to put in my car, all for $2.29 PER GALLON!!

I really, really don't know why I haven't thought of this sooner but it is saving us a ton in gas money! I wanted to share this little morsel of info with all of you in case you have Giant Eagle in your neighborhood, too. :D

We have been doing this ever since our gas station was put in.

I love, love, love Giant Eagle. I am going tomorrow to get the buy one, get one free roasts. I can get 4 $15 roasts for $30. You can not beat that! I stock up whenever those puppies go on sale. They have a lot of buy one, get one free deals

Mmmmm...I love roast beef. I just found a nice little recipe for roast beef in the crock-pot. Fork-tender after cooking for about 9 hours. Good stuff. Even my picky 3 y/o eats it.

I wonder if the Columbus stores have the same special on the roasts.

That is how I make my roasts. I make it every Christmas too, so I don't have any stress and it all turns out delicious.

We buy cards to Longhorn from there and use them when we go out. It gives us points and we still are using cash not credit.

You guys might all have your own local grocery chains that offer some sort of fuel discount benefits that are based on how much you spend at that grocery store. Like I said earlier, most grocery stores are selling gift-cards for tons of different retailers and restaurants. You can buy gift-cards for any of the places you like to shop or eat and earn more money towards gas than you would if you were just earning based on what you spend on groceries alone.

Check it out...you never know :)

we have a giant eagle right across the plaza from babies r us, so when I was buying all my nursery stuff and other big items, I would buy gift cards galore at giant eagle then head across the plaza and spend them. got my gas money and all my items!

We get coupons for groceries from our gas station here. But with it costing $80.00 to full up and then getting $3.73 in coupons I feel like I am still getting ripped a new one.

Aww, funny money! A friend of mine's FIL has everyone give him their Canadian tire money so he can go buy things. He saves it up until he can buy something big. He just bought a brand new riding lawn mower.

Around here, at most of the grocery stores with gas stations, the gas per gallon is a few cents higher than elsewhere.

Many gift cards have a fee of somewhere from $3.95-5.95 for loading them with cash. some don't, but most do. so be sure to check that out.

so if you aren't watching out carefully, by the time you pay the fee, plus the higher gas, any discount you get is a wash.

Not here.

Winn-Dixie did do a promotional Gas card thing one year(when I worked there)- if you had spend so much on groceries in a month on your reward card then they sent you a 10 dollar card.
..It ended up being a BIG thing- I don't think they did it again the next yr.

Our gas at GE is the same price as anywhere else and there is one catch. You have to use your money earned within 90 days or you lose ten cents off of it. Also, if you save up $4.00 off and gas is $3.70, your remaining amount of stays so you have .30 off your next fill up. Once you use your card and have no remaining perks, it starts over again.

We buy gift cards and use them without running into any fees either, you have to read the fine print by usually, but any fees are only with the cards you fill.

GE also has a cookie club offer for kids. You buy a card for a dollar and it is good for the whole year. Everytime you come in show your card at the bakery and the child will receive a free cookie. It works wonders on days when the boys are a little stir crazy.

We have that here, but you have to watch. Some items are grossly overpriced. I only buy sale items and gift cards to rack up my fuel perks. Shop and Save has theirs too... I like the local SNS much better than my local Giant Eagle.
