so, thank goodness they are working on our apt and that nearly forced me and DD to the salv. army....
I got a motherhood nursing top for $7! BRAND NEW W/ TAGS! Its not a tank top but a campstyle shirt (striped w/ buttons and collar) w a white tank underneath. I assume you unbutton shirt one and let the boob out the side of the undershirt. I'm stoked! This is my first nursing shirt b/c they are costly.
DD got an adorable pair of satin pjs
and I got her a beauty and the beast collectable plate to go w/ her room for her bday for $10.
which brings me to ask, is it tacky to give her something that was 2nd hand? ?

You are sooo lucky! I am having absolutely NO luck finding anything for myself or the kids at thrift stores, freecycle, or craigslist, and ebay is getting downright ridiculous in cost!
Yeah for you though! I really probably just don't go the right day or time.
Oh, not tacky at all! Now, if it were for someone else maybe a little, but it would also depend on who I think, know what I mean? Growing up, we got all of our stuff secondhand and we appreciated it just as much!

We are thrift store junkies, both DH and I. We go thrifting at least every other weekend and we find some great stuff. We love it and we find some really cute things for the kids. There is nothing tacky about a thrift store, they rock!!

I personally LOVE them...espeically for kitchen stuff and books and toys. We ocassionally find clothing. Normally for myself if its not clearance / thrift i dont buy it.

I think for DD's b-day next year I am going to take her on a thrift store shopping spree. (She loves to shop, and we don't always agree on clothes, so I will just let her have fun and do the work for me!)

I'm already starting to check out yard sales/thrift stores for presents for Haley for Christmas. Things are always so tight that I can't wait until Christmas time to start!

And I am happy there are so many thrifters on here. We need to start more bragging!
I'll start posting my finds if you do the same!

LOL thats awsome about the tampons. I ve had an unopened box since before DS was born and DH keeps asking (we've moved 2xs) "why the hell dont you throw those out?"
Obviously b/c AF is comin one day.
Haileysmom, I too worry over xmas/b days...we are pretty much on only my husbands income (11.25 an hr) and it doesn't go far. We have 2 bdays in sept (me n DD) then halloween THEN the shopping must begin so we have enough.
To be honest, i was under the impression most here were well off (NO OFFENSE either way).

tomorrow is %50 off Saturday at Goodwill. DD and I have turned %50 off Saturday into a fun hobby. I love shopping thrift stores. I love it even more when everything in the store is on clearance!

We are on my fiance's income only from his business. Things are tight around here everyday but I wouldn't change it. I get to stay home with Haley.
But even when I was single and had hardly any bills I loved shopping at thrift stores. I love the "hunt" and you always find the coolest things!

I hope not because I have done it. I really think it depends on what and how you give the gift.
I found a really cute wood rocking chair on the side of the road with a broken back. I took it home, fixed it, sanded it and stained it. Now it looks like I bought it in an expensive boutique. I'm keeping it, but I could give it as a gift and no one would know that it was once on it's way to the dump.

All Goodwill stores have %50 off Saturday but they aren't always on the same day. Luckily all the ones in my area are on the same day so I can store hop. Right now I am on a quest to find a dining table that I can sand and re-stain. I am also looking for wood chairs that can be sanded and stained. I want 6 wood chairs that are all different in design but have the same stain to match the table. Hopefully it won't take me too many %50 Saturdays to find. I'll post a photo if I am ever successful with my hunt.

WHAT?!?!?!??!?! 85% of the prince's wardrobe is 2nd hand. He has twin cousins who are 2 years old (or maybe 3...) well anywho....My cousin sent us boxes and boxes of clothes...some still have the tags on them....he's already got stuff for when he turns 2 years old

I do it for fun and so that I can buy MORE! and still do other things. This year I just don't have the money to go into Austin to go thrifting, or else I would. I think I may make several trips before christmas though, since I have had to get new tires for my car.

My dream is to take a thrift shopping vacation. I'm completely addicted.
We moved from CA about 2 years ago. We had awesome thrift stores. Now, where we live there is one Goodwill about 20 minutes away and a handful of small church thrift shops where the items are often overpriced. The church shops are also closed during the summer... thank god for garage sales (not too many of those either though). I want to move just because I can't handle the lack of thrift stores.
I actually had a nightmare a few weeks ago that I went back to my CA town and all the thrift store had moved.
I try to outfit my kids buying used but it is hard now. I used to outfit the kids and sell my best finds on ebay.

Not tacky at all my kids LOVE the thrift shops. I get lots of gifts there for my family Christmas & b-days you name it. :-)

I wouldn't give a gift that was 2nd hand, but I wouldn't be offended to receive one. I'd probably scratch my head a little, depending on the circumstances.
I like consignment furniture stores. I got my Stickley dining room furniture at one; no way I could have afforded it retail. I also got a Chanel suit at a Jr League bazaar. I prefer rummage sales to thrift stores usually. I can do without the dust and moth ball smell!

i love the hunt for things too, dh not so much. but mil and i makes games up. like let find this item with a hat, and who ever finds something that is it or the closest buys soft serve. usually she wins, shes good at finding things.

Now I want to go garage saleing soooo badly!!! I just hate to haul two crabby kids in and out since most of the sales are far apart :(
I have decided though that my monthly prenatal apts are going to be designated for Goodwill and/or garage sales! :)

Thrift stores are the only place we shop unless they have clearance sales at K Mart.
