So my baby is 7 1/2 months old and eating very few solids. We are going very slow and he doesn't seem to mind at all plus we were going on vacation and i knew it'd be easier to be mostly nursing. But i got my first wtf look from a trying to be helpful waitress. my baby chews on everything he can find, tables, books, everything...he's constantly biting but he doesn't care if he eats (it's to ease his constant teething pain...he's got 4 teeth). So she brought over crackers (like oyster ones you stick in soup) thinking he'd love those and then was completely baffled when my mom mentioned that he doesn't eat them yet and he's a happy breast baby. The waitress actually stood there and stared at him (he's a big fatty) and then me (I kinda felt like she was looking at my boobs but I'm pretty sure i'm being paranoid) with this shocked expression on her face. She made a comment about how crazy it was and then walked away. I told my mom i usually just nod and say thanks instead of going into it but whatever...why do random people feel they have the right to judge and comment? I'm sure as he gets older this'll get more common but I've never had anyone say anything either about NIP or feeding solids. I don't really put off that "approach me" face though (pretty sure it's more of an "I"m gonna kick your ass if you mess with me" face). :)

next time stick your chest out like a proud pigeon because being able to fatten up a baby like that is definitely something to brag about. I'm all jealous! My babies were always on the smaller end of the growth chart and I always sorta felt like I was failing. Fortunately they're healthy so it's just genetic I guess? I don't know. I think I get the "you're starving your kid" look from people. I am definitely not going to push solids on my newest LO. My mom came over today with a box of rice cereal because he is going to be 3 months old on Monday. I just looked at her and laughed with this "hell no" stare.

Honestly, I have noticed the judgements and comments come from clueless people. One hundred and fifty percent of the time, it's either those who have never breastfed or those who have even NEVER HAD KIDS that have something to say. As if they know? The way I see it, these people are so self centered they can't really imagine giving themselves like that so it's not in their realm of understanding. Self centered people say stupid shit because in their world, it's not stupid.. it's some rare gem of wisdom you are so lucky to be privvy to. So consider the source, and when you do it's almost comical at how silly these people are and don't realize.
A good analogy would be like when we were children and wanted to go to school wearing socks on our hands, shorts on our heads and hair taped in strange places to simulate bangs. How good we thought we looked!

LOL. My sil did this to me too when dd hit 3 months. I thanked her and put the boxes on the top shelf of the pantry. Eventually I tossed them. I thought about giving them away but didn't want to promote rice cereal.

You may have done that waitress a big favor. Imagine being a healthy adult woman and not even knowing that you can feed a baby breastmilk for seven months and have a happy baby! What if you were her very first exposure to the idea? Yay you!
