Hello Everyone,
I breastfed my 8 month old until about 2 weeks ago. I just found out a few days ago that I'm about 5 weeks pregnant. I don't understand what is going on with my milk. I thought it would dry up quickly, but it's all still there I think, and it's pretty painful. Will it not dry up because I'm pregnant again? If I let it dry up does this mean that it won't come back when I deliver? I want to be able to bf my new baby. Anybody know anything about this? Thank you!

I didn't dry up completely until about 21 weeks or so but my supply went down a lot right away. It was painful to nurse at first like with the initial latch but it got better. I have not weaned my DS though and I am still nursing.
Your milk will come back when the baby is born. I am like 32 weeks and have had colostrum in for a while now too. When the baby is born it will be the same as before, like 3-5 days or so of colostrum and then the milk is in. I had colostrum leaking from my breasts early in my last pregnancy too.

Thanks everyone. I'm so happy to hear that my milk will come back after delivery! Any ideas how to get it to disappear quickly now? It's pretty uncomfortable.

Congrats on the pregnancy. I don't have any suggestions on how to get it to diisappear. Try a decongestant?? Cabbage leaves?? Personally if you didn't want to nurse, I would pump until comfortable and slowly decrease the amount/time you pump until it goes away.

I already did decrease slowly. We were down to one nursing session a day when we quit. I thought that my milk was all pretty much gone by then, but it's not! My boobs feel like I have rocks in them! Maybe I'll try some cabbabe leaves. Can I take a decongestant if I'm pregnant?

I would check with your ob about what decongestants are safe to take. If you are in pain, I would hand express just enough milk to feel comfortable. The last thing you want when you are pregnant is mastitis.
Congrats on your pregnancy!
