My son (almost 3) will not settle down and go to bed. He's been screaming for daddy or mommy constantly and when we go in it does not matter what we do. I'm ready to scream. We were out this evening and this happens every time we try to leave the house after dinner. I'm being to feel like a prisoner of the house. I can't stand it anymore!

When you say, "we" were out this evening, do you mean all three of you, or just you and your so?
I'm just wondering if he is reacting to a break in routine or a break from mommy and daddy...?

Do you think he's overtired? Or maybe, overstimulated? I know that my 3yo doesn't do well with a babysitter when we're gone, but does fine with my teenage son babysitting because the son knows the routine.
It stinks that he's not going to bed. I hope he gives in soon!

Well we were not home Sat, Sun and Mon night and Sat and Sun were fine I think last night was the fallout of all the time away. He finally went to bed but we had to put him in his crib to get him to sleep. He's been in a toddler bed for a week and a half now. The crib was not even made up and he still wanted to be in it.

When you change your evening routine, do you also change his bedtime or his bedtime routine?

Everything is a little rushed and a little later.

Ds gets like that when we have an evening activity. I think he is just really wound up for doing something different and it takes him a lot longer to settle his brain down.

Maybe try to not rush? It's hard to hurry up and settle down, you know? Try to just keep it calm and normal. I know that here when we have later outings, sometimes Jack needs extra time to settle down - not less.

I'm just offereing sympathy because my almost 8 month old is doing this too and I can't imagine it still going on at 3! Yikes, hang in there! I'm going crazy with it now!

Well he is going through a transition to a toddler bed so that may be some of it. It's just hard now because he can get up and come to the door and that makes him less inclined to fall asleep.
