My doctor said that you take their weight and multiply it by 2.5 and thats how many ounces that a baby needs in 24 hours.

For example:

20lbs X 2.5= 50oz's a day.

But if you arent pumping, then you cant be for sure that your baby is getting that much. Its pretty much a guessing game, I guess.

Sometime between six months and a year (as solids are introduced and slowly increased) baby's milk intake may begin to decrease, but breastmilk should provide the majority of baby's nutrition through the first year. Because of the great variability in the amount of solids that babies take during the second six months, the amount of milk will vary, too. One study found average breastmilk intake to be 30 oz per day (875 ml/day; 93% of total intake) at 7 months and 19 oz (550 ml/day; 50% of total energy intake) at 11-16 months.

Are you returning to work and wanting to know how much to send to daycare?

That's the equation used for formula. Breastmilk is different and they often need less. There isn't a certain amount since breastmilk can change in fat and calorie content. If you're going back to work, I'd just make sure to send extra until you get an idea of how much your baby needs. I've also heard of babies barely eating anything while at daycare and then catching up in the evening and night when mum is home.
