when my daughter was born i didn't have a chest freezer...i pump and stored it in a regular freezer....for a month then i got a chest freezer....its been in there for a month now.( so it 2 months old now )...i have alot when my milk came in i was pumping out 8 oz at a time till i started to nurse her when she came home for nicu at 2 weeks

how long will the milk be good for now?


So i just start to give it to my one year old or do you think it will be good for 6 more months or so on

yes, it will be fine for that amount of time. but after that you will need to pasteurize and refreeze it.

I have honestly never heard for pasteurizing and refreezing breastmilk. the reason you can't store past about 6-12 months in a deep freeze is that it starts to lose it's nutritional value. thawing, pasteurizing and refreezing would only make it lose more nutritional value.

Begin to rotate fresh milk into the back of the freezer and occassionally use some of the oldest frozen milk from the freezer.
Once baby starts an interest in solids, a breastmilk slushy is a great first food. you can also use it to make breastmilk butter for baby's oatmeal or toast. :)
