how do I increase it? I only am able to pump maybe an ounce total: and this is all day- I pump w/a hosp. grade pump, medela lactina double electric. my lo is 3 mos 3 weeks old. she's been on formula since a week after her birth, per her dr..- I would give her my breast first before the bottle but now she will not even take my breast anymore and if she does she tugs hard on it:(, I give her what ever I pump to her but I would love to be able to get rid of the formula all together and just give her my goods instead;) I am doing herbal's -more milk plus capsules, with mothers tea, and fenugreek tea, not a big difference and have been doing this for 3 wks, I was wondering if the capsules of Fenugreek would be better and Goat's Rue too? Also HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Sorry for the long note:) But I really want to be my lo main source of milk:)

It sounds like you never really established a full milk supply. Once this occurs it can be a real uphill battle. Could you tell me how often you pump and for how long? Also, is it a Lactina select or plus?
Be careful with all the fenugreek. Too much can cause you to have diarrhea.
Goat's Rue is indicated more for moms who lack mammary tissue. Is this the case for you? Have you been able to rule out other factors contributing to low milk supply? Breast surgeries? Pituitary gland problems? Thyroid problems? Anemia?

I believe the pump is the select. I pump at least 4x's a day for 20 mins., I did have both nipples pierced years ago and had the rings removed once I was pregnent. My dr. was aware of the piercings and she said it would be fine to breastfeed. I agree with me not establishing my milk supply, I felt the peditrician jumped to giving formula too soon; well for my taste. But my baby did need to eat. She weighed 6lbs 7 oz at birth, and at the one week appt she drop to 5lbs 13 oz.,after a week of supp. w/formula(an ounce- baby wouldn't drink the whole ounce but some) she jumped back up to 6lbs 4 oz but the dr. said to keep giving her the formula:(

Could you tell me how much formula you use in one day. Total oz. in 24 hours.

I would say around 36 oz. she's up to 6 ounces per feeding. She does sleep thru the night as well. We put her down around 8:30 PM and she wakes up between 7-7:30 am. She doesn't feed at night like before.

If you really want to turn this around at 4 months, and I can't really tell you if you will be able to. She is mostly formula feeding at 36 oz. per day. See a lactation consultant that can help you trouble shoot and help you with relactation. The lactation consultant can tell you what would be involved with relactation and you will have to decide if this is something that you will want to do.
