Rec'd this memo today from my daycare provider:

New Jersey has just passed the State law requiring all Preschoolers to get an annual Flu Vaccination. New Jersey health officials say the immunizations will help bring down the total number of sick children, hospitalizations, and parents having to sta home to care for the child who is ill. Starting September of 2008 all children must receive their flu shot no later than December 31st of each calendar year if they attend a preschool program. A copy of this immunization must be given to the office in order for your child to remain in school according to New Jersey State Law.

At the bottom one of the teachers have written the folllowing.....

Ask for a "no Added Mercury" Flu shot or "Preservative Free"

Why should I be asking this?

Because most flu shots have mercury.

They took the mercury out of child specific shots. The flu shot is not child specific.

Mercury and other preservatives have been linked to various health concerns with vaccines.

So glad I'm notin Jersey!!!! Yes, the flu shot has thimerasol...you can ask for it w/o but there are limited quanities. Only thing is they're just replacing the mercury w/other toxins! Aluminum is normally the replacement!

As BaD pointed out, aluminum is also in flu shots, and it's a dangerous toxin as well. There are plenty of other dangerous toxins in them as well.

Formaldehyde anyone?

The multi-dose vials contain Mercury. I found this out when I was scheduling the kids' shots last winter. If I wouldn't have asked, they wouldn't have told me. I would have to get them at the Health Department in a single shot dose. I think the nasal vaccine is approved for ages 2 and up, but I don't know anything about it.

I live in NJ and you should be able to get an exemption without much trouble. Pawprint has the exact wording that she has used with her ds. She may weigh in or you could PM her.

I heard about this coming down the pike a few months ago.

This (http://www.medimmune.com/pdf/products/flumist_pi.pdf) gives contraindications, warnings and precautions, adverse reactions, etc., for FluMist. I'm still trying to find the ingredients.

The very last paragraph on the left hand side of page 3 in the link I posted in my last post shows what's in FluMist (the inhaled flu vaccine).

I think I'm going to go the flumist route with Craig since he's 4 and starting Pre-K this year. I think I'll just make the trip to the Health Department for Cait.
