It looks like a new board. I hope more people will register. I've been looking for something like that although I'm not thrilled that they exclude religious homeschoolers.

www.growingoaks.com (http://growingoaks.com/) is also a secular homeschooling site.

If I join a hsing site I will be forced to be mature and non-offensive in my posting. Egads. I don't know if I am up for it.
I know what you mean. Someone posted a "Timeline of Life" wall poster that costs $200 ON SALE. My first thought was, "Holy fucking shit!" However, I decided that that might be inappropriate to post, so I posted nothing.

I'll check that one out, too. Thanks!

I haven't checked them out yet, but are you saying that they don't want religious people there at all?

I'm Christian but I'd be interested in a non-religious board for homeschoolers.

I didn't see it as excluding religious homeschoolers. Just specifically for secular humanist, atheist, agnostic, freethinking, rationalist, and skeptic homeschoolers. I can understand why it would be nice to have a board for like-minded folks.

mature and non -offensive? Well, that doesn't sound fun at all.

We have a local "secular homeschooling" group here. I quickly realized that most of the people in it are in fact religious. Which is ok, but the group isn't really what I was hoping for. Half the people in it are involved in a creation science class, and I'm pretty sure they are all Christian, from what I can tell so far.

Perhaps we have a different view on what "exclude" means, but I was basing my previous reply on this from the registration page:

The Forums are for non-religious homeschoolers only. By registering as a member of the Forums, you represent and acknowledge that you are both non-religious (e.g. an atheist, agnostic, Freethinker, Humanist, Rationalist, Bright, et cetera) and homeschooling (or considering homeschooling or homeschooling alumni).

I'm involved in a secular homeschooling group as well. While we still have more Christians than not as far as I can tell, since it's made clear that the group is secular, I don't have to deal with a lot of preaching (it's not allowed), and the Christians know that they may be exposed to people with differing beliefs in this group. However, despite the fact that there are exclusive Christian homeschooling groups all over the place, some Christians still choose to participate in our group because we offer a lot more classes.

Besides Christians, our group consists of a few atheists like me, a few Jews, several agnostics, a couple of very liberal Christians, a few agnostics, and one who is somewhere between Buddhist and atheist (her mother is Buddhist; her father is atheist). I think we have a pretty good mix overall.

Yes, I saw that. I just see it as a specific group, wanting to discuss things they feel strongly about without the same ol' arguments they have probably had 4 billion times on other boards and IRL, lol.

There are plenty of Christian-centered homeschool boards where Atheists may feel strange or in the minority. Every homeschool group in my area is either church affiliated or made up of mostly Christians.

To each his own, but I just don't personally like the exclusions by anyone. I prefer groups that make it clear what their views are, and I'm even okay with their saying that a person is not allowed to post religious references, links, and suggestions, but I don't like the fact that religious people are not allowed to post at all.
