In the past few days, my 3 mo old fights and breaks off & screams every time I feed her on the left breast. I looked at it & it looks a little red. We never had a problem. I have been pumping in between to build up my milk. When I express by hand I don't get much of a letdown. She feeds off the right one fine. I try to pump for 20 mins but sometimes she wakes up or she wants to feed again. So I can only pump for 5-10 mins.

What is your sense of your milk production on the left?

I thought I wasn't producing much. When I express and/or pump I really don't get more than 1 1/2 or 2 ozs. Some days, like today, there doesn't seem that much.

I want you to have a consultation with a lactation consultant so she can evaluate your milk supply and baby's sucking.

Connie Draper and Dianna West are both in New Jersey and fabulous. Go to www.lowmilksupply.org and search for an LC by state. You will be much happier meeting in person with someone.

Thank you. Does age have any effect on milk supply? I am 41yrs old. Will be 42 next month. I could not locate Dianna West in NJ

Did you have any trouble conceiving?

I didn't even realize I was preg until 6 weeks. I had a miscarriage at 9 weeks preg in 2006. My husband's testerone levels were so low they told him he couldn't have any. We have a daughter who is 10 yrs old & a son who is 7 yrs old. No conception problems with them.

Age may be a factor. Did you start pumping because you were worried about your supply?

Yes

Pumping is removing what the baby needs to get and that can contribute to a fussy unsatisfied baby. Go to www.thenewbornbaby.com/milkproduction for more info and a link for increasing your production.
