A week after I gave birth we found out my son wasn't gaining any weight, so his pediatrician told us to supplement with formula. Since then (it's only been 2 weeks of supplementation) my milk supply has decreased. While supplementing, I had been pumping, and have since rented a hospital grade Lactina Classic. It seems to be helping a little, as I am getting over 6 ounces total per day where as before I would barely get 5 ounces. I'm wondering if there is anything else I can do to help get the milk back faster. The lactation consultant I talked to at my hospital recommended More Milk Plus, which I'm weary to take. Other friends who have had the same problem as me have advised to add more dairy and protein to my diet and continue to drink as much fluids as possible. My son is 3 weeks old and eats 4 ounces 7 times a day.

28 ounces of milk a day is above average for milk production-generally 24-25 ounces. go to www.thenewbornbaby.com/milkproduction to find out more about increasing your production.

Increasing your diet or fluids will not increase your milk and too many fluids will decrease it, so be wary.

He gets mostly formula. The 28 ounces does not come from me. I only get about 6 ounces pumped a day, and he doesn't eat directly from the breast.

Thanks for the site, I'll check it out.

Yes, but I wanted you to know how much he would probably be getting from you if you were just breastfeeding.
