View Full Version : Nipple biting following yeast

My 2 week old was a nursing superman until we both had yeast. Before I figured out the problem, he spent about 24-36 hours not latching on properly and began pulling in his tongue and biting me. I have began pulling down his chin gently and he's beginning to use his tongue properly again.
My question is this, what else can I do to encourage him to "relearn" his good nursing habits......and is there something topical that will help heal my mangled breasts. I'm pumping for about 24 hours to try and help them heal.
Thanks so much!

Tell me about your nipples from day 1, as yeast just doesn't happen in the first 2 weeks.

My nipples were great !! A little soreness at latch-on and then ok.

Does he change the shape of the nipple?

There is a bit of flatness on one side of the end when he pulls off

Do you feel that your production went down around 2 weeks?

No, my production has just kicked into gear.

Nipples do not get yeast unless there is damage. My hunch is that he is rubbing some of the skin off with nursing and you probably have a high pain threshold. What symptoms led you to the conclusion of yeast?

The same burning razor-like pain that I had when my first son and I had yeast. In addition to the fact that he started having latch-on issues at the same time. I remember my first son quit latching on right because his little mouth was sore as well.
Do you think that a nipple shield is a good short term solution to help?

A nipple shield can help. DO you notice any color changes in your nipples-white, purple?

I want you to see a lactation consultant in order for you to get the best possible care.
