Our Family Bed

We love our family bed. It is me,DH, DS 3 yo (he will be 4 in Oct) and DD 4 mo. While it can get a little crowded when DS has a wild sleeping night it is really wonderful when we are all together (we miss DH as he has been working nights). DS became upset the other day when it was mentioned that he might want to sleep in his own room one day. We told him that no one was going to make him but he might want to one day. I know our snuggle time will come to an end and I will be very sad. I was just wondering for all of you that have BTDT at what age did your LO move into their own bed?

Ds1 slept with me in my bed from birth until he was about 6 months old. Dh and I moved in together at that time and dh is a very heavy sleeper, dangerously heavy with a baby in the bed. I moved him into his crib and he did just fine, never complained.

ds2 is 2 1/2. He slept in a cosleeper beside our bed until he grew out of it at about 6 months, then his crib was in our bedroom until he was a year old. Much of his time was spent sleeping in our bed anyways, since he would sleep about an hour or two in his crib and then wake up and come to bed with me. I didn't have to worry about dh because he was working third shift. I finally moved him into his own room but he continued to come back to bed with me every night. Then I finally had enough, no one was getting any sleep and we were all miserable and cranky during the day. I moved him into his own room and followed the no cry sleep solution for about 3 or 4 months. It worked and now hw goes in his own room, in his own bed, every night from 10pm till about 7 am. \

Everyone is much happier and sleeping much better. I do wake up sometimes and miss him, but then I remember what it feels like to get punched in the face and kicked in the stomach at 3am. LOL. It's hard but it was the best thing for our family.

We did family bed for YEARS. The kids finally moved out for good when Grace was 4 and Thomas was 9. Thomas was on a couch at the end of our bed from age 7-9. We were all together in one bed for 2 years from Grace's birth to age 2. Thomas was 7 when he swapped to the couch.
