My son, who is about 9.5 months old, has only been nursing once a day. I do have him on solids but he doesn't eat that much, sometimes he only has one "meal" a day but he still generally just wants to nurse once a day. I had a ton of difficulty getting him to nurse in the beginning (I wasn't even able to nurse him until he was four months old) and so I've still been pumping & nursing to keep up my supply now that I kind of have it up.

I do have him on formula but on good days, he only gets 2 or 3 bottles of formula and the rest I am able to nurse and/or pump. I really want to be able to do extended nursing so I hope he's not weaning, any help or comments would be appreciated. Oh, and he's finally getting his teeth so I think that's also part of why he doesn't want to nurse but he's been teething for the last 5 months.

Teething may vey wel be the issue then. My DS would go on a nursing strike when he began teething.

Yes my daughter (10 months) would rather eat solids then nurse.

Nursing neclaces help keep them on longer. It will pass, just keep bringing him to the breast as often as you can, before any bottle, or any solid foods.

I agree more than likely it is related to teething. Some babies nurse more when they teeth, some nurse less.

I would try to always offer the breast before any kind of solids. Breastmilk or formula should still be his main source of nutrition for the first year.

I would also recommend trying Hyland's teething tablets. They worked wonders for my DD.

Don't give up! I'm sure this is just a phase.

I'm so glad to hear about the other nursing strikes going on. My 9 month old super busy boy just wants to GO GO GO! He will nurse at night all night long if I let him but would rather stop to eat solids and sip a sippy during the day...sometimes he'll only nurse like three times a day...I sure hope that's normal. My other babies were comforted by nursing but not this one...he would rather just go on through a boo-boo than stop to nurse.

At 10 months old I would suspect a nursing strike instead of weaning. My ds was very distractable at that age. To nurse him I would have to take him to a dark quiet room. Did he gradually decrease to 1x per day or was it a sudden decrease in his nursings? Weaning usually happens very slowly where as a nursing strike is an abrupt decrease in the amount of nursing. Hang in there and keep offering to nurse. I would offer to nurse before every bottle and every meal.

I would try the necklace as well, my nursling will stay up to five full minutes after I pull out the necklace and that is five minutes of hind milk for us~ wahoo!
