Docs and osteopaths who treat Yeast Overgrown Syndrome generally combine the diet with large doses of antifungals taken internally (i.e. Nystatin powder) - sometimes for long periods of time, combined with live acidophilus and the anti-candida diet. All three aspects need to be done in conjunction, and the treatment is usually at least 6 months long. The diet is more or less a modified Atkins type diet, a little less strict on low-carbing but eliminating certain other foods like dairy, yeast containing foods, vinegar and mushrooms.

The most popular primer for info is The Yeast Connection Handbook by Dr. William Crook.

Other books to check out: (I haven't read these buy they are recommended by my specialist)

Optimanl Wellness by Ralph Golan, MD

The Candida Albicans Yeast-Free Cookbook by Pat Connolly

The Candida Control Cookbook by Gail Burton

It seems that most docs in the medical establishment remain very skeptical or outright disblieving of yeast overgrowth syndrome. Chronic Candidiasis is recognized as a condition which people who suffer from certain immune system disorders and other chronic illnesses do suffer (i.e. HIV, and MS patients) - but most doctors are resistant to the idea that this is a syndrome affecting many in the general population.

You'll have to read the literature and decide for yourself. As for me, I remain highly skeptical due to the lack of clinical research, but I have nothing to lose by trying this diet except a few pounds and some culinary pleasure.
