I want to get one for Elise for Christmas. Ideally, I'd like to keep it under $75, but if it's really awesome I might consider spending a little more.

New or used, either one is fine, as long as it's in really good condition.

I'm looking on Ebay right now and feeling overwhelmed!

I would recommend the Mellisa and Doug wooden doll house but I think she is still too young. I bought this (http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-L9502-My-First-Dollhouse/dp/B000NW77J2/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1220228453&sr=8-1) for both of my niece's last Christmas (both were around 3 years) and they both LOVED it.

I saw that one, Hamm, and it's on my list. It looks really cute.

I also saw this one

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10098792

That's more like the size I was looking for, and if it comes with any tiny pieces I can take those out until she gets older.

I'm still undecided though. I really like the one you linked as well, and it would save me a bit of money lol.

I bought both of my girls this one for christmas last year. http://www.tableandhome.com/prodhichi
they play with it daily and we havent had any problems with it.
They have it at toysrus online but something must be wrong with their pricing. I remember the other day there was a toy posted that was not right and this doll house is priced wrong.http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Loving-Family-Twin-Dollhouse/dp/B0007UB5YI/ref=sr_1_26?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1220230164&sr=1-26

I bought them last year when they had a sale buy one get one free.

Just FYI. I was checking out this and it is more expensive because it appears to come completely furnished. The other ones say furniture and accessories sold separately. I checked them out because I cant wait for dd to be old enough for her first doll house.

Oh heck. Every time I think I've got a handle on how to raise a girl, someone throws another wrench in the works. We have a really little Fisher price dollhouse (http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Little-People-Sounds/dp/B00008ZCEF), but DD barely plays with it.

Do they play with dollhouses more when the house is bigger?

We can play hopscotch on the sidewalk, cause I got chalk. And we'll make cookies in my easybake oven..

Oh I love playing hopscotch, and I'll bring my marbles and jacks too!

I could bring my easybake oven too, but the food doesn't taste so good since I used it to melt my crayons.

I think the Melissa and Doug dollhouse linked earlier would be great for a boy.

My son would probably even love this one...

Ok, since it's her first one, I am thinking of going simple and smaller for now. So now I'm stuck trying to decide which of the two that Hamm recommended.

The Fisher price one is really cute, but oh my the accessories are really expensive! $17-$25 per room set. I could see spending that on a big and fancy dollhouse, but a preschool Fisher price one?

I don't think the wooden houses are gender specific. Ryan's Room is one of the brands that I like. A few years ago I bought ds1 a play treehouse that was really nice and I think I've seen pirate ships. Ds2 loves the Playmobile stuff. I like buying the accessories and using them on a book shelf. Then I don't have to find space for the houses.

If you wanted one for a boy I would go with the wooden melissa and doug.

My son still plays with the fisher price ones we have and a dora castle.
