I just ordered an Ergo and am so excited to get it (I used the moby wrap for the first 7 months and needed something for a heavier baby). I've heard lots of people have success nursing in slings but I never did either. Please don't be nervous about nursing in public though! I was soooooo nervous in the beginning, I had the nursing cover and was totally freaked out that someone was going to see something or say something but as the weeks have turned into months and my son became busy and hated being covered I've had to be brave and nurse in public with no cover. I've nursed just about everywhere at this point (busy airports, zoos, chuches, etc) and never had one person say something to me! Alot of times they don't even realize whats going on until they have already gone by me. It is scary at first but just try to find a quiet area and a shirt that you are comfortable with and go for it. Or practice using your sling or wrap at home in front of the mirror. Good luck!

The ergo is wonderful. I couldn't have survived my first child without one, but it really isn't set up for nursing. If you're looking for something to help wiht NIP, I'd suggest a sling or wrap. For a comfortable carry....the Ergo. I didn't use mine until my babies had good head control, but I know they make an insert for young infants.

Hi. I have a 4 mo. old girl, first time mom. Just bought ergo carrier. Haven't successfully nursed in it yet, but could be b/c baby is too young for great head control, or that I'm very large busted? I posted a question about ergo and someone posted this site for me, maybe it'll be useful for you? http://www.the-ergo-lady.com/ergo-baby-carrier/

I love the carrier...my baby is at a bit of an awkward age though...too big for infant insert, a little too small to go without a wrap rolled up, underneath her to elevate her. Plus, her legs look spread too far right now....I've been sticking both legs out one hole (designed for one leg). The site above gave this suggestion for the awk. in-between age/size.

On the bright side, it's mostly very comfy, baby seem pretty happy most the time. Great for grocery shopping and walks.

Best wishes:)

If you have a breastfeeding supply store in your area, they will help you try on all the different slings until you find the one that works best.

I love our Ergo but more for comfortably lugging kids around :).

If I were you I'd take a chair in front of a mirror and practise NIPing. You'll see how little one really sees. Or use a light Indian cotton scarf thrown over your shoulder if your baby will tolerate it.

Depending on the age of your baby I would suggest a hooter hider. It is light weight and have an opening at the top for you to see your baby and your baby to see you. I would nurse my DD anywhere.
With that said she is now 7 months and hates to nurse under it. She is way more interested in the outside world
Good luck
