Robeez? Bobux? PediPed? Nike Baby FitII? Which is best for a first walker? Dd2 is almost 7 months, and is just now starting to cruise the furniture. Dd1 was walking a couple steps at a time by 8 months, and almost exclusively walking by 9 months. So at this rate, I'm sure that dd2 probably isn't that far behind where her sister was at this age. Her first shoes will need to keep her feet warm as well...we just used regular shoes from the store for dd1, but now I know about the different types of shoes available for new walkers, and I want something that fits well, stays on, is soft and flexible for her feet, and don't make it look like she has clown shoes on, lol!

So, what's what out there? Anyone have a particular type that you just LOVE? Fill me in!

Thanks!

Robeez and Bobux (knock off Robeez at Target) are awesome!!! Bobux is about half the price of Robeez.

I don't anticipate using a "regular" shoe for DD until she really needs them. Even when she does need a regular shoe, I'm not so sure we'll be using Nike or any "cool" brand.

i wore hand-made leather baby moccasins until i was two. i have continued the practice and the kids love em! they are difficult to make tho, but so beautiful.

I kept DS barefoot until almost a year, but the weather here was very nice during the time he started walking. I've tried a few different shoes, but Robeez have been my favorites. I could never find a decent pair of the knockoffs at Target. They always had really cute ones for girls, but the boys would be very slim pickings.

I'll make a plug for Soft Star Shoes.

www.softstarshoes.com

They are one of the only US made shoe companies left. We found them when we needed custom slippers for our handicapped son and have been hooked ever since. Our younger children only wear Soft Star shoes. I plan to get some for the rest of the family for the holidays. If you want something different, just call and ask!

We got the knock-offs from Target. I wasn't really impressed with how they held up.

My favorites were the shoes from walmart that had the see-through gel spots in the bottom to help them feel the ground. They held up well and looked great, and Haley liked them.

I'll see if I can find any links.

I've actually heard that it's easier for babies to learn to walk in bare feet (at first they will only walk inside), so not to worry about shoes until they are ready to run around outside.

I bought dd a couple pairs of $3 shoes from Dollar General, but just because they were cute (pink and glittery) and not because I will have her wear them. "lol9"

I will be watching this thread, though. I can't even remember what ds's first pair of shoes was like. He hates wearing shoes, and he's almost five.

I bought DS1 some of the prewalker shoes from Stride Rite and I really liked them. Flexible enough to crawl in but also enough traction to cruise/walk in, too. Here's a link for their Girl's selection:

pediped is stiffer I'd go with Robeez type for a baby, and wait until she is really running around for the soled ones.

Im w/ Haileys moms, for DD the BEST shoe was the Robeez like ones from walmart but i dont think they go too big size wise....

now that we are in canada, IDK what DS's first shoes will be might have to spring for the Robeez.

I loved the Robeez hands down, but I also refrained from putting shoes on my babies until they were really walking well, and walking outside, or in public places.

Shoes are optional around here. We only wear them when we have to. So, the kids didn't get their first shoes until they were old enough to want them.

hand-made leather baby moccasins that my mom got him. then when he grew out of them, we bought gerber walkers. they are great shoes, very lite and great for babies with flat feet. i found them at walmart but they stoped carrying them.

Thanks for all the great info ladies. I'm not planning on having her wear shoes 24/7, but since I would rather have the appropriate pair for when she does wear them, I thought I'd ask here. The Nike ones I only mentioned b/c a friends daughter had a pair last winter, and they were super soft (they were "crib shoes") and I loved the way they went on-the entire back of the heel of the shoe unwrapped around and velcro fastened towards the front-no more squishing feet down and forward-you could just slip the foot straight in. I have yet to see another shoe made quite the same way.

And, since our house tends to be chilly in the winter, and she can't keep socks on.....anyone have any advice about that one? Lol!

Unfortunately, that isn't an option with us! We go too many places that aren't where I would want her bare feet, or even with socks on.

My advice about the chilly house and socks is to just put her in socks and robeez in the house. That'll keep her feet nice and toasty and they are hard for little ones to get off. J pulls off every shoe except his Robeez.

Thanks for starting this. I have been trying to figure out what to do with ds feet for weeks. We live in ND...super cold. Plus we have hardwood floors so his feet get cold easy. He is crawling and cruising on furnature so with just socks he slips and falls all the time. Socks with grips don't stay on his feet. Thanks for the ideas!!!

Striderite was our first walker shoe also.
