I'm trying to "green" up myself and my family a little bit (mostly trying right now to get the chemicals out of the house, including laundry detergent, dishwasher liquids, etc). Do you have any online suggestions for across the board green living? I'm trying to take small steps in the right direction for now...I've got a very, very long way to go. The less guilty involved, the better for right now :) thanks

Hola,
I applied to their email not too long ago, they give simple advice, and as you, we've been taking our own steps. Green bags, cloth diapers, green cleaners. Trying to add organics into our life one step at a time as well, it's unfortunate that "going green" is so costly! Here's the site, hope it has some insight :)

We love Seventh Generation for cleaning stuff. If you have a Whole Foods near you, it's a good start to find green stuff.

Cloth Diapers and Allens Naturally detergents to wash them. Or 7th Generation.
We have been using cloth for our newborn - 3 weeks now. We use bumgenius and love them so far. I have gotten a LOT of looks and smirks when I would say we were going to cloth diaper. But let me tell you the expense saved is amazing!

I've made a few easy changes just on my own. I recycle like a mad woman, I recycle more than anyone else on my street (which is kind of sad since it's free here and no one else puts their bins out). I also never buy paper towels or napkins or paper plates or tissues. I reuse water bottles and then recycle them, I know it isn't good to use them at all, but we are working on getting away from them. I have those grocery bags from the store that are re-usable and if I forget them I get paper bags because they cost less to recycle. I keep them around the house for uses. If I do get some plastic bags I reuse them as well.
We all try to take shorter showers, that was at the suggestion of my 6th grade daughter.
Here is a website I have on my blog right now, http://www.aza.org/YearoftheFrog/index.html

I've switched all cleaning products basically to vinegar and baking soda, once we run out of dishwasher stuff that'll be next on the "green" list, then laundry detergent. I tried cloth diapers when we first brought DS home from the hospital but we were having so many nursing issues I just couldn't focus on anything else so they went by the wayside...we had a diaper service which was great but the covers sucked (proraps) and were impossible to get on. and now my MIL has been paying for our diapers so I just cant justify the cost of switching...hopefully I'll get it together when #2 comes along. I do recycle and I'm trying to cut down on paper towels which is a HUGE thing for me because I use tons. thanks for the tips :)

To the Mama using cloth diapers for 3 weeks, 7th generation and other natural detergents have more natural oils, they repel the urine, making the cloth diaper less effective. See what the manufacture recommends. We use happyheinys pocket diapers, and use CountrySave, it's a more natural alternative. Congrats to you using cloth diapers, we love them! ;)
