View Full Version : Car seat/booster seat that is narrower?

This might be a dumb question, but we currently have a jeep cherokee and with the two seats we now have for Carter and Callie it will be absolutely impossible to fit an infant seat in it. So, I was wondering if there are any car seats or booster seats that are narrower that would allow for us to keep the jeep and fit the baby in too? (I know that some of the boosters Carter cannot be in yet - don't most start at 30 pounds? He is 28 something right now and pretty tall)
Thanks for any input!

Isn't Carter 3? At 3 years and 28 pounds, he is too young and too small for a booster. Three narrow seats are the Sunshine Kids Radian65 (harness to 65 pounds), the Graco Cargo (harness to 40 pounds and a not-very-good booster), and the Evenflo Chase (harness to 40 pounds and an adequate booster).

Just wanted to say that I have both my 3yr 27lb ds and my 5yr 40lb ds in the Radian 65 seats and we LOVE them! The seats are quite narrow thats why we wnt with them.

Actually he is only a little over 2- I didn't think he was old or big enough for a booster, but that is why I asked to make sure. So, the ones you mentioned are convertible car seats? Where is a good place to look at them?

The Radian is a convertible seat, in case you want to keep him rear-facing (at his age and weight, that would be safest). The Cargo and Chase are combination seats.

I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee and am expecting baby #3 also.
We are able to fit a Graco Safe Seat (high back booster, we will switch ds into this when the baby is born and he's 5, currently he's in the Nautilus), a Graco Nautilus and a Graco Snugride in the backseat.
Hopefully if you can get a 5 point harness seat like the Radian you can fit three across also. It's a little harder for you because Carter isn't old enough for a booster. I was comfortable putting my age and size of ds into one for space's sake.
But it can be done - three in a Jeep!

There are actually very few cars (aside from the tiniest of subcompacts) that can't accomodate three-across with the right seats and a bit of patience. Yes, you may have to buy new carseats, but new carseats are almost always cheaper than new cars.

I have a cherokee and can just barely fit a turbo booster and marathon (very narrow base) in the back with a little smidgen of space left over for a big kid that's not in a seat.
I've been searching high and low for radians for a while now. I know that radians easily fitinto a cherokee seat.

With respect, ILM, I would not consider a Marathon a "very narrow" seat at all.
If you're interested, PM me. I might be selling one of my Radians soon. I'll even install it for you.

Oh yeah, the seat itself is not narrow, but the base is. A kid sitting next to it can scooch in a little closer b/c the base is narrow.

That was my thinking as well - we have a van that has two backseats, however, it might need a new transmission so we don't have the money for that - I would much rather buy new seats! Now I just need to figure out how many new seats I need to buy - Carter and Callie both have these and they are HUGE:

Bumping- anyone know if I would need to buy 2 of the Radian seats to fit in the Jeep then or just one? (I guess I should just measure the backseat and then go from there!)
