I used my pouch sling for the first month or so, then swiched to the ring sling b/c it's versatility (and DD wouldn't lay down in the pouch anymore). For for past several months (dd2 is 15 months now), we've gone back to the pouch, but using it for the hip carry. The distribution of the baby's weight over my entire shoulder makes carrying a heavy baby much easier than the ring sling at this stage.
So, the ring sling for a 2 month old is much more versatile (for kangaroo chest-facing carry, facing out, nursing in the sling, hip carry in a couple of months), but you would get some good use out a pouch sling as well.
HTH.

Well, I already have a Moby Wrap (http://www.mobywrap.com/t-mobywrap.aspx)

... and I love it its just that I'm short 5'4" and its way too much fabric. And the cradle/Nursing position he hates... (he will only nurse side-laying).

Okay, see, that's why I have wraps that I made. You go to WalMart or the fabric purveyor of your choice (WalMart is the only place left in my area, alas), and you buy five or six yards of discount fabric. After cutting it lengthwise into three pieces, you now own three (admittedly unhemmed) slings.
So I tried, and use, lots of different weights of fabric. I have slings I use even when it's hot. The Moby is just a little too heavy for my taste. So I have some much lighter weight wraps.

i had a ring sling but could only get the hang of it when my dd was tiny and couldnt move around much
i now have a mei tie (sp?) and i think its much easier, it is a pain to tie at times but it was nice too when i was pg it was east to get her on my back with no help.
i did try a wrap like that when dd1 was about 6 months but she was already crawling and so did not want anything to do with being cuddled up to me lol
my son seems to want momma more than my girls did, which i love, so hopefully hell like to be worn longer b/c i love having him all snuggly next to me :)

Well, I've thought about the pouch sling... I could get that one for cheap and try it out... I was looking at the Maya Wrap ring sling...
What specific brands did you use madelsmama? Was your ring sling padded or not? I really am looking for something that I could use pretty easily at home mainly. Here in NYC it's starting to get cold and the moby is perfect for chilly fall and winter weather.

I have a moby wrap that I used with DS til he was about 6 months, then he got too heavy. I hate the hotsling, the one shoulder thing just didn't work for me at all...the whole off balance thing isn't for me. I now have an Ergo that i LOVE and he's a chub! Almost 23 lbs at 9 months! I suggest trying before buying if there is anyway you can...there are alot of babywearing groups around (try thebabywearer.com...it might've changed by now). Good luck! You'll love having baby close!

Yes, Peanut I love having him close... more so to be able to nurse him all on demand.

Its supposed to be comfortable... wide fabric for even distribution of the LO weight. I haven't got one yet so I'm not sure.
